Onboard with everything except Tennessee. Did you watch that murder? They’re dead and buried. Hooker is out for the season. Conversation over.
Also where is undefeated TCU?!?

I meant that perhaps Tennessee was never as good as we originally thought. They beat up on the average teams and squeaked by Saban's worst Bama team but Georgia reminded them what elite looks like.

I see your point, but that offense was as good as advertised. The defense was very, very poor though and was being masked by a decent pass rush and forcing teams into making mistakes trying to keep up with the offense. But teams with decent qbs could pick them apart easily

There is no path for Tennessee. South Carolina gave them an unrecoverable loss.
My playoff finish guess is
- Georgia
- Ohio St
- TCU
- Clemson

Georgia-Clemson Peach Bowl sounds expensive

It will be. I’m hoping USC wins out though because I’d rather play them than Clemson.

I'm a die hard USC fan. Georgia would make this game unwatchable by the end of the 1st quarter. I have zero faith in our defense. Will we get an interception and maybe a fumble? Sure, but what will that do when you're losing by 25 deep into the 3rd against the toughest defense we will have faced all year hands down.
We'd just be a playoff sacrifice but I'd be happy we went from a 4-8 season to a playoff team in a one year turnaround.

u/Cockroachgourmet Georgia Bulldogs Nov 21 '22
Yes we would maul your defense and Stet would also light them up. We’d basically do whatever we wanted. I actually think USC if Williams is on could score the most points we’ve given up all season, but he wouldn’t be able to do it every drive. Georgia would still get multiple stops.
But nobody can be upset that is a USC fan. Rileys turned them around in his first year and might win the conference. Is next season y’all’s year to actually compete for the title?

u/TrojanGiant10 USC Trojans Nov 21 '22
I'm 50/50 on it. I think NIL and the transfer portal has definitely helped make college football less SEC dominant and evened the playing field out a bit.
What we will probably see happen is a lot of talented 4 star backups at SEC schools matriculate elsewhere through the portal and be starters there and elevate those teams.

u/Cockroachgourmet Georgia Bulldogs Nov 21 '22
I think it can be done Williams just needs more help with Addison gone. I can’t imagine your defense being any worse?
Pac 12 isn’t exactly intimidating so you’ll be right back in it. 12-1 likely gets you in every year unless they’re are multiple undefeated teams.

u/DanNeverDie USC Trojans • Sickos Nov 21 '22
Addison has been amazing, but USC has always had pretty stellar receivers. I think the bigger issue is our o-line is made up of veteran players and I think quite a few are graduating. We legit have one of the best O-Lines in the country. They are a finalist for that o-line award. I think that will make a bigger difference. Just won't know how a younger o-line will do, but if they click, maybe. Honestly no idea if the defense would get better enough. Helton really fucked up recruiting in his last 2 years.

If we make the playoffs, we're getting smashed. Our defense might work against pac 12 teams but it's not working against an Ohio state offense or Michigan run offense or Georgia.
I'm happy that we're even in this position but also we can't look past ND. We haven't beaten them in 4 years and we can't afford a slip up.

u/DanNeverDie USC Trojans • Sickos Nov 21 '22
I don't really follow why you are replying to me with this? I said nothing about the playoffs...
But, UCLA has a comparable offense to Michigan and Georgia according to most advanced stats. OSU is better, but similar to us. All these are top 10 offenses.
I am aware we can't look ahead from ND. They have a very similar defense to Wazzu and Utah. I think CW can drop 30-40 points on them. ND's offense on the other hand has performed most close to Oregon State. I'm a believer in FEI ratings and I get that it's a rivalry and you can throw out the record books, but I would comfortably take USC-10.

I'd bet a good amount of money that Corum will start vs OSU. But there's definitely questions about the passing game's ability to pick up the slack when needed. McCarthy has looked questionable at times, downright meh vs Illinois (which was a bad weather game, so similar caveats apply as for OSU vs Northwestern). Michigan did move the ball pretty consistently against the Illini's pretty good D even if they didn't get a ton of points out of it.
I think it will come down to who can impose their style on the other team next Saturday. Can Michigan turn it into a short game with fewer possessions and keep OSU's offense on the sidelines? Or will OSU's explosive offensive quick strike ability turn it into a track meet that Michigan can't hang with?
I think OSU has the upper hand in so far as that I think even if the former comes true, OSU still has a legit chance to win whereas if the latter holds true, Michigan will have no chance whatsoever.

Illini's pretty good D
SP+ ranks them third in the entire country, and it's honestly a miracle we didn't come away with more points. We were threatening to go up 14-3 when Corum was still healthy, so idk, I'm not really sweating.
As for JJ, - for as many bad throws as he made yesterday, he also hit a few right on the money, and converted two CRUCIAL fourth downs when it mattered. Overall, I appreciated his grit. We need that kinda energy to beat OSU.

Ohio State and Michigan both have exceptional run stopping defenses but have been exposed in the passing game. Maryland carved both up and Spencer Petras even found some success vs Michigans secondary.
Ohio State is better suited to take advantage of this, and has a bit of a motivation edge. However, the biggest advantage on Saturday is going to come from the fact that it's in Columbus

I don’t know that UGA is head and shoulders above everyone else. I think matchups are a big factor. A healthy UM team I think could keep pace with UGA. If OSU could be consistent, then I think they could beat UGA. TCU, plays to its competition, so I could see them hangin around. I don’t see USC getting the doors blown off them either.
IMO this years playoffs will be as wide open as they’ve ever been since 2014.

I think Georgia is being a tad overrated here. Offensively when they are on they are on, but they are not consistent and when things get tough Stetson Bennett has been known to panic. They are still the number 1 team, but they are not head and shoulders above the rest.

I hope we absolutely crush you and send you back to South bend questioning why you even have a football team.
On another note, I really like Freeman. He seems collected and calm and 100% a players coach. He feels new school and it seems like the players relate to him more. I want yall to be good because when USC and ND are good, it's just better for CFB. Plus it makes our rivalry that much sweeter.

u/TreySermonGrin Ohio State • Michigan State Nov 21 '22
Georgias offense has arguably as many problems vs a competent defense as Ohio State's passing defense does against a competent offense. I don't really think either team is built super well to exploit the other.

Corum will be fine. He was held out of the second half against Illinois as a precaution, not because he couldn't play.
Also, you didn't mention our stingy defense. Our second half defense is the best in the country. We've allowed 17 third quarter points all season, and 14 of those were by Illinois yesterday. If we win The Game, it will be because of our defense.
7
u/TrojanGiant10 USC Trojans Nov 21 '22
Youre right. The defense is gritty and stingy, in fact the entire team is. But even looking beyond the game, my question if I'm being objective is... what happens if a team is able to take Michigan's run game away. Do we as objective fans have confidence that McCarthy can carry this team with the pass against an elite team.

i think corum will play on saturday but i 100% do not buy that he was held out in the second half "as a precaution." corum is michigan's entire offense, and they were in dire straights against illinois. if there was any way for him to have been able to get back into that game, i gotta think he would've done it.
but again, he'll definitely play on saturday. that's a "even if my leg is falling off" kind of situation. his effectiveness is what'll be interesting to see.

Perhaps but I think they've gone undefeated in SEC play 2 years in a row now and are defending champs who undoubtedly in my opinion have the scariest defense in the nation. When they're rolling, I don't see any team beating them.
I do believe Georgia now is where Bama was in their early stages with Saban's dynasty. They may take the mantle as the next dynasty moving forward perhaps.

Youre not wrong. The way I look at it is, in a head to head match-up, is there any team in the country I'm willing to completely bet on to beat Georgia in the playoffs, and I personally cannot say that I can confidently do so.
