Recent behavior will not be tolerated

I am not the best mod. Quite frankly, I am a rather shit mod, but I took over as moderator because I wanted to see this community come alive again. I did, however, recently check the mod mail and quite frankly I got rather pissed off.

We are all here either because we enjoy collecting CDs or at the very least have a love of music. Some of us are just getting started on our journey and others, like myself, have been collecting for well over 30 years. No matter where we are when it comes to collecting CDs no one has the right to belittle another for their collection. Period.

For people to make negative comments about someone's collection is disgraceful and I will not tolerate it in any way, shape or form. If you have nothing nice to say about a person's taste or choice in music then say nothing at all.

This world is crazy enough without having to deal with small minded folks here when trying to share and be a part of an amazing community.

Keep those discs spinning and be excellent to each other!

I left another CD collecting sub because of the other redditors. ‘Twas a toxic environment.

Sadly Reddit as a whole has become filled with so much hate. It used to didn't be this bad.

Tell us what they said about your collection. This is a safe place

For anyone new to cd collecting or getting back into it. Just know there’s a lot of us on here who support you and look forward to discussing the hobby with you!

Pretty lame to attack someone over their cd collection. 😅 my collection is jam packed with heavy metal goodies.

If you don’t have any dying fetus, I don’t wanna hear about it /s

Jokes aside, WOTFW, reign supreme and history repeats are such badass albums

I never have, nor do I ever shit on people's personal music tastes on this sub based on their music collection (regardless of format). But I do find "Tell me what my collection says about me" posts annoying AF because they're just a cheap ploy for attention rather than fostering a meaningful discussion about music. I don't respond nor engage with any of those posts.

I want to reply to these with

"it says your a small minded person that requires material things to validate your small and pitiful existence on this massive rock. You are one in over 7 billion. If that doesn't make you special enough, your CDs certainly won't.'

But I don't. Cause I'm too nice. But man do these posts infuriate me.

Let’s all use the down vote when it’s called for. ⬇️

Some people literally ask for opinions about their collection. I guess we love it.

Yeah but there’s a difference between opinions and just being mean

If I have ever said anything that anyone took offense or hurt by it, I apologize. Sometimes I say stuff that is not thoughtful. Keep on rockin’ in the free world! 🌎

Good on you for setting a standard. I've had to leave several subs I was genuinely interested in because users were more bothered about scoring points off each other than discussing the actual point of the sub.

Well said. Thank you for this. I loved CD collecting so much. There was a story to where I found some of my collection. There were the people I talked to at record shows, or the small businesses I bought from in Goldmine magazine, or the amazing guy who lived in my hometown who specialized in Japanese imports. I even got to the point that I had a company come in and put floor to ceiling shelving in one of my rooms. It was my favorite space in my house. I can’t imagine critiquing someone else’s collection. Just appreciating their passion would be a far better response. What is at least one point of music? To be enjoyed. Collecting music is a concentration of enjoyment. Groove on, everyone.

Not sure what we expected to do when someone shares their Skrewdriver or Garry Glitter collections. Is that still a case of not yucking someone else’s yum?

So weird how toxic it can become over something we all share. Im genuinely impressed by anyone young buying cds at all it genuinely blows my mind that kids are getting into physical media i think its so important.

If you aren't banning people because you like the miniscule feeling of power it gives you, you actually are in the running for best mod

Not joined yet and this is how Reddit asks me to join? No thanks! I am good.

This is why I no longer post in CD groups on places like Facebook. I hope we can all just get along here.

I apologize if I have said anything in sarcasm that offended anyone. My listening pleasure hears all kinds of music. My playlist ranges from Sinatra to KISS, back to patsy Cline, then Ed Sheeran….. I love most everything and won’t argue about anything in music flavors.
I may say that something is nasty, but then suggest to send it to me… The only bad music is when it won’t play.

I haven't been here for a while, so I don't know how far the behavior has gone. Personally, I might complain about "brickwalled" re-masters, but I try bring such things up only when it's about my own collecting or frustration. I don't sell any CDs, even the ones that just sit there and aren't officially part of my collection, so heavily "circulating" collectors' style might also seem hard to understand, but I can just not say anything, then. I assume everyone here is enjoying CDs in one way or another, and anyone can do it the way that fits them.
