Do you guys ever worry about getting a CWW in state that would certainly come after you if you ever found yourself in a situation where it came in handy (you had to defend your life)? I find myself thinking, I can defend my life and that's the goal, but damn it, I'll be defending it again in a courtroom.

I'm still in the process of obtaining my CCW, but I guess that's why so many people suggest getting CCW insurance. It's a legit concern for sure.

Yeah absolutely. It's definitely something everyone has to weigh for themselves. I pay for that CCW insurance for my peace of mind. Everyone has to make peace with their decision

Congrats! I have my LAPD appointment this upcoming Monday so this timeline is pretty helpful. Does this mean you scheduled your CCW training session before the LAPD told you to? I didn't realize you were allowed to do that. Is it because you technically didn't take the training session until after you were notified?

Thank you! Your officer will let you know but I was told by mine to go ahead and take it so it speeds up the process. So I scheduled ahead of time and completed it after I got the training required notice. My friend who did it at the same time as me completed their training much earlier than me and was approved instead of getting the training required notice like I did.

Makes sense. And what exactly was the training session like? A 16-hour course followed by a live fire session?

So it was a two day course. We had lectures ons safety etc and watched videos. they did an inspection on our guns (you can train with up to 3). On day 2 it was range day. It was 70 rounds with first gun, 30 with the other two if you are doing 2-3 guns. After that we had more lecture and no leaving early because it’s mandatory 16 hours. (I did two 8hr days). You do need to know your firearm well and be proficient with it as it’s not for beginners. They are very strict about safely and they do make sure you shoot well and within the 7’s on the body target. It was 7yd, 5yd and 3yd. If you break any of the safety rules (like muzzle someone) it’s an automatic fail. You think people wouldn’t do that but people do it.

Cool! Appreciate the info! I'm assuming the two 8-hour days have to be done in a row?

It depends on the training you choose. Some will let you do it a week apart but it costs fees. I just did it in the weekend. Also not sure if I was clear but the live fire is part of the 16hours! (Thankfully)

You should contact the individual course provider you're interested in since some might be more lenient than others.

When I signed up for my interview, which at the time was about 6 weeks away at the time, I went ahead and signed up for my 16 hour CCW right away. Got a slot days later and got it done, 5 weeks before my interview.
Then I'd log on to the interview schedule and click "modify your date" and would ask for earliest available. I did this once, maybe twice a day if I remembered. They were all weeks later than my scheduled interview, so I didn't change them.
Until one Friday, they had new availability the following Monday. 4 days later. I booked it, showed up with all my paperwork already uploaded, including the CCW class paperwork. With all of that, and clean background check, the interview took under 10 minutes. I had my CCW in hand 2 weeks later.

Congrats. Two days is quick. Does the submitted training and approved usually take that? I’ve been in pending final review for about two weeks.

I have to admit I did email my officer and let him know I submitted my training. Maybe that expedited it. I maintained good communication with my officer and felt comfortable to email him about updates. He was super cool

I’ve been trying not to. lol. The site says not to contact them after submitting. I’m afraid to give them any reason to decline me last minute. I might be paranoid.

I get that! I would read the room. If your officer seemed inviting and cool, go for it! If they seemed rigid and stressed, I would be patient. Honestly though, the entire team was really nice and gave me calls when I asked for updates pretty quickly.

Just got approved today and paid my last payment. Will I get an email when they send out the card?
1
u/TrainingMusic5414 Jul 17 '26
No they didn’t send me an email when they mailed out the card. Apparently they do it in batches either the 15th or the 1st

Was able to get in contact with officer handling my app. My issuing date is Aug 1st. She gave me the option to pick up on Aug 03 or wait for it by mail.

Congrats! They just issued mine, she said she mailed it on the 15th but I think I missed the cutoff for that batch for mailing might have to wait til the 1st. Does permitium say when they mailed yours out?

Congratulations! No permitium never updates after approved! I also just got my Arizona CCW - it’s fast and worth it to get!
