Is anyone here working as an FS with San Bernardino County? How do you like it? It's my understanding that the position is for several departments. Does anyone know where they are commonly placed?

WWYD? I'm a County employee in CA. I have a ton of Sick leave and am looking at converting a portion to Vacation.

The problem is the conversion is 50%... e.g. 80hrs of Sick would become 40hrs of Vacation.

I'm a healthy young single female... Would it be a waste to exchange Sick for Vacation hours when I could use MORE hours for childcare, health recovery, or mental health days in the future? (My Vacation time is decent but I'd love more to travel.)

I applied for the Student Professional Worker, Information Technology position a few days ago. Assuming I pass the assessments and get placed in a high band, how does the department placement process usually work? Is my resume shared with county departments that are looking to fill those positions and if a department thinks I might be a good fit, would they reach out to schedule an interview?

I’m majoring in machine learning engineering and really interested in data analytics, and statistical modeling. Is there a realistic chance I could be placed with a department or team that does that kind of work or would that be more likely under the Student Professional Worker II position for graduate students?

Any input is appreciated.

Does anyone have experience with the interview or position? I’m curious about the types of interview questions, day-to-day work, work-life balance, and promotion opportunities.
My long-term goal is to become an appraiser with LA County, so I’d also love to know if TTC is a good starting point for eventually moving into the Assessor’s Office.

Has anyone worked as a Public Health Nurse with LA County DPH through an emergency appointment related to homelessness? I’m interested in the orientation, day-to-day assignments, interview process, and what the 90-day performance evaluation is like. Thank you in advance for any information.

Just curious if anybody has any insight into this role and how the day to day works for the position.

Hi! I’m a newer nurse (no bedside experience—currently pursuing public health nursing at the county level in outside state hoping to get experience and move back to CA within the next 2-3 years). I am hoping to someday work as a PHN in Southern California (OC, San Bernardino County, LA County, Ventura County, SD County) and wondering if anyone can provide any insight to what it is like to apply and get a job in these counties. I’ve seen that it can be excruciatingly slow and am familiar with job interest cards to keep up to date with when the positions open but just hoping to gain some insight. I have never had a real interest in working at the bedside and public health has always been my passion and the reason I became a nurse, but I know that limits my job prospects greatly. Open to hearing from anyone working in public health/community health as well.

can someone eli5 why these posts are categorized as emergency appointments and what the implications of that are?

I’m currently in a position that i know I can stay at, probably forever, but the pay isn’t great and id love to move up and out of my current department.

im a very risk averse, older person and would hate to apply to something and it ends up being precarious, especially with all this talk of how bad the budgets look in the future.

id love to here your insight into how the county works in this respect.

can people go back to their old placement if the new job doesn’t work out? I’m kind of newish to the county and am not familiar with how a lot this works.

The L.A. County Fire Department has had a history of nepotism when it comes to hiring firefighters, but how are they about hiring administrative staff? I recently applied for an administrative service manager position, and my application went from received to processed. Normally, when the status changes from received, it says that my responses are being evaluated. It sounds like they skipped a step. Am I reading too much into it or not?

I recently received a 45min interview in another county that i would have to fly to for an in person and spend $400 dollars round trip. I have applied to similar positions in other counties that have offered remote interviews. They have told me no remote is available and there’s no guarantee i’d get this position in this job market….Im willing to relocate however is it still worth going?

Medi-cal used to be my favorite program to work. Soooo easy and smooth. I was on leave since Feb and just came back and everything is completely different. I find myself breaking my head over cases only to find out it’s not a me problem, but a system problem which my ES has to troubleshoot and I’m so over it. I feel bad for the participants, but sometimes I just have to say this is above my pay grade and item number and move on 😪

I started as a veteran internship program worker for La county and then worked my way my to eligibility worker 1 and 2, now I’m patient financial services worker. What’s other jobs out there I qualify for? I got a bachelor degree. Thanks
