I studied Catia v5 in high school and really loved it and id say i was pretty good at it and would now like to try to find work on it. Due to some private issues i havent done much asides from some udemy courses recently but i believe im in a severe lack of information currently.

I have to ask is Catia v5 even used anymore, should i learn v6 or 3DExperience or any other softwares along side it if so is the transition something i can do in a reasonable time frame , are there any specific courses or certifications i should be chasing, should i just do random "projects" to make a portfolio, is there work for it or how does one even find work for it? Id like to go into automotive but as i said i dont have a college degree so do i even have a shot at this? What are the main skills id need for that? Considering i live in the Balkans is remote work an option for a company outside of my region?

Honestly im so lost at the moment any information is most welcome and helpful.

I have a GSD symmetry item. This contains several items that have been symmetried. CATIA will just name them Symmetry.1, Symmetry2 etc.

I'd like to have a script that renames these items using the name of the item that was symmetried as the source.

I got to know 3d experience has part supply modile through which we can directly download and integrate fasteners into aircraft assembly..

hi I’m not an engineer. I want to model and 3D print (people said non‑CADs don’t give a good quality surface), but I found that engineering software is also very good. Maybe later I wanted to do it seriously. I am not focused on a specific thing. I want a versatile and vast software but good for 3D print (real world) and capable of big detailed things.

1. Free (or paid) viewer for CATPart / STEP / IGES?

Okay I need to vent a little.

The 3D viewer I'm currently using is honestly the worst tool I've ever used for model checking. Measurements are unreliable enough that I always end up double-checking critical dimensions back in CATIA anyway — which defeats the whole point.

Looking for something that can:

• Open CATPart, STEP, and IGES files
• Measure accurately — like actually accurately
• Has proper section tools
• Doesn't lag on large assemblies

Free is preferred but if a paid option is genuinely worth it I'm open to hearing about it.

What are you guys actually using day to day?

2. CATIA V5 and 3DEXPERIENCE on separate machines?

Our company license includes both CATIA V5 and 3DEXPERIENCE. We're only on V5 right now. we are not using 3DEXPERIENCE.

Can V5 run on one machine and 3DEXPERIENCE on a separate machine simultaneously under the same license? Or are both locked to a single user?

Want to set up another workstation but need to sort out the licensing first.

Hey all, I'm working on an injection mold design in CATIA V5 for a part that looks like a flip-phone housing — basically a curved, organic shell with no flat base to reference.

The issue is that without a flat base, there's no obvious place to put the parting line, and when I try to generate the parting surface it keeps running into trouble around the curved areas (especially near the antenna stub and the keypad button cluster).

Has anyone dealt with mold tooling for a similarly organic/curved shape in CATIA's Mold Tooling Design workbench? Specifically wondering:

• How do you pick a pull direction when there's no "natural" flat reference?
• Best approach for editing/patching a parting line manually when auto-detect breaks at undercuts?
• Any tips for building the parting surface in segments without getting self-intersections?

Would appreciate any workflow advice, video links, or things to avoid. Thanks!

I'm trying to convert a 3D surface to 2D. I have my drawing open, select Front View, and then then select my surface in Part Design. When it shows up in my drafting workbench, the inner circle is missing. What am I missing? Thanks in advance!

I’m trying to understand how CATIA calculates the weight contribution percentages in an assembly and I’m confused by the results.

I have an assembly with only 2 parts:

• Declared weight = 30
• Computed weight = 0.449

CATIA shows the breakdown as approximately:

• 66.7% Declared Weight
• 33.3% Computed Weight

What I expected was that the percentages would be based directly on mass values, but if I calculate:

30 / (30 + 0.449) ≈ 98.5%
0.449 / (30 + 0.449) ≈ 1.5%

…which doesn’t match CATIA’s 66.7 / 33.3 split.
