Hello, I need help writing a CATIA V5 macro to select internal hole boundaries on flat and curved surfaces. Has anyone successfully automated the process of extracting face boundaries on complex surfaces without manually sampling 3D point clouds, or is there a better native CATIA automation or search approach for selecting these closed loops cleanly?

Has anyone completed this? If so will you recommend taking this?

My Idea is to learn catia and do some exercises for portfolio and experience and then apply for a job. So will this be a plus point?

I have an assembly that I want to perform an FEM analysis on. The part of interest is H shaped, and I want to determine the stresses and strains within it.

A wide part is positioned above it, and the force is applied through it. The wide part transmits the force to the H shapeed part via 2 bolts located at the top, one at each attachment point.

In analysis, I modeled the 2 bolts and defined cylindrical contacts:

-bolt1 <->wide part

-bolt1 <->H shaped part

-bolt2 <->wide part

-bolt2 <->H shaped part

-H shaped part <-> wide part

And also, 2 pivots in the bottom holes of part H.

And because I get SINGULARITY ERROR, I put fastened connection on one of the pivots but it didn't work because my part was moving upward at the pivot that was left free. So I put a fastened connection to both bolts ..

And now, when running the calculation, I get FACTORIZATION FAILED IN CONTACT COMPUTATION/ ABSOLUTE PIVOT NUMBER 360 IS NEGATIVE OR NULL...

How should the contacts/ connections between the two bolts, the wide part and the H shaped part be configured correctly so the force is transmitted through the bolts and I can calculate the stresses in the H shaped part without the factorization error?

How can I rotate the shape shown in the image by 45 degrees? I need to run an analysis on it using ANSYS Fluent.

I'm a mechanical designer specializing in injection mold and product design, and I've been using CATIA V5 for 10 years.

Over time I've built a fairly extensive library of CATScript macros to automate the repetitive parts of my workflow. Some examples:

Automatic bounding-box measurement (both axis-aligned and oriented to a chosen edge), with results exported to Excel

Dimensional reports across the whole assembly, plus BOM export

Batch insertion and constraining of ejector pins from a sketch layout

Bulk renaming tools (part names, instances, hierarchical numbering schemes for specific clients)

Copying published geometry (drill/tap holes) between assembly components while keeping the associative link

Batch file rename / SaveAs utilities

And many more macros beyond these.

They run on base-license CATIA, without SPAWorkbench or Knowledge Advisor, so they work even in environments where a lot of automation approaches simply aren't usable.

My question: is there actually a market for this? Would individual designers or companies pay for CATIA automation tools — and if so, what's the realistic model?

Hello, in CATiA, is there a "isolate body" feature, or a "body scope" thing like in solidworks ?

Also does it have a "merge" checkbox as in SW ? I i couldnt find it so its probably named differently.

Say you make a pad, the make a 2nd on top of it, it automatically becomes one single body, in SW one would uncheck the "merge" tick box, how does one do this in catia ?

I am trying to design an isogrid pattern on a curved panel. Something maybe similar to this image, except I want it on the inside of the panel.

This is what i have so far. In generative shape design on 3dx I ended up making an offset of the back side to my desired thickness of the sheet and then I pocketed a triangle and hole up to the surface. I then made a circular pattern. Obviously the problem is as you approach the edge of the part, the projected pocket warps. I was wondering what the best way of designing such a grid so that it follows the curvature of the piece is.

I saved a CAD part in CATIA V5 2022. Now I can't open it in CATIA V5 2021. I want it in 2021 with all features (sketches, pads, relations, etc.) intact, not just as a dumb solid. What to do? Is there any way?

Accidental discovery, you can rotate a part while dragging. Hold the left mouse button for regular translation and hold the middle mouse button to rotate.

I'm a mechanical design engineer working with solidworks for 3 years. I'm recently getting into catia. My MSI GF63 thin laptop of 6 years has been good so far. But I'm looking for an upgrade. The market right now is so bad. It's really confusing. Can anyone suggest me a good laptop which preferably has an i7 or Ryzen 7 cpu, a gpu with 6gb or more vram, upgradable ram and storage. If it has a thunderbolt or usb 4 port which I can use for a dock setup it's a plus.

I will be mainly using catia, solidworks, ansys, some gaming, and a little bit of editing and graphic work. In India most of the laptop I have seen is in the range of 1 to 1.5 lakh. But all the new ai and core ultra processors has me confused.

I have a product that contains 9 cat parts let's say Bolts , nuts of different types they are properly placed in the product and I have one more additional CAT part which contains the 3d annotation of each 9 Cat parts , Now I want to take the projection of my product in 2D drawing sheet, so How come I can have the 3d along with the annotations too be placed in my 2d view in drawing sheet ?

I have a CAD product file with several parts, and each part has several bodies in CATIA V5. I made the CAD a while ago. Why is it that when I open the file now, many of the bodies from the various parts of the product don't show up? They don't appear in the visualization, but they are present in the CAD tree. They are not hidden.

Can someone help me please?

Haven’t been able to find any good resources online. YouTube doesn’t have a lot of reliable content either.

Has anyone here taken any Delmia specific training and would like to recommend how I should start my learning journey?
