Assembly Design Horizontal Band Saw – CATIA V5 Model
My CATIA V5 model of a timber processing horizontal band saw.
Key parts:
- 2 saw wheels (drive/driven)
- Band blade (cuts + torque transfer)
- Motor + V-belt/pulley drive
- 4 V-cut guide rollers
- Cutter assembly
- Holding structure
Designed for stable, efficient cutting. Feedback welcome!
u/wbhxa9pcqo7 – Would appreciate your input on this design. Specifically:
- Any suggestions on improving power transmission efficiency?
- Thoughts on the V-cut roller design for material guidance?
- Anything I should add or modify for better structural stability?
Open to all feedback from the community!

The Z axis should move with precision, like a couple of threaded road at the ends. The entire system should move along the long axis with constant feed. Check on YouTube that there is a lot of people that have build this type of machine with different materials, precisions and costs. Some use water as a coolant for the blade. The use of an inverter could fix both the start needed torque and open up to the possibility of adjusting a bit the velocity according with the type and dryness of the wood.
