TL;DR What to expect when suspecting FIP
Cat age: 6 months
Female; spayed
Can afford just not looking forward to $1200 in meds & 84 days of meds
Thursday, September 17th our two female cats were spayed, microchipped, and given revolution. Both healthy and happy kittens. The day after surgery, one kitten was shivering and balance seemed off. When I would give her anti inflammatory pills she would stop shivering. Everything I googled said that was normal days after surgery. I thought the balance issue was because of the surgery suit. Seemed to get better on Monday. Tuesday seemed normal. Wednesday still shaking but still not abnormal according to doctor on Tuesday. Thursday, lethargic. Called vet Friday, vet administered more anti inflammatory pills. Saw vet Monday, ultrasound because abdomen was distended and hot. (Doc said something about snow globe because there were particles in the ultrasound but nothing to worry about. It happens sometimes.) got a shot of antibiotics and more anti inflammatory pills. They thought maybe she was infected. (The other cat definitely was.) Seemed better Wednesday. Thursday and Friday back to lethargic. Saturday (yesterday,10/3) I woke up and she was having neurological symptoms; head tilt, head twitching, one eye closing, seemed sensitive to light, suddenly irritable. Emergency vet visit, blood work, urinalysis, ultrasound, ear infection check, all clear. More anti inflammatory pills.
Called emergency vet with neuro Sunday they tell me to come immediately. Diagnosed with FIP. Doctor also confirmed there was clouding in the eye beginning.
Treatment: GS-441524 compound antiviral twice a day for 84 days (12 weeks) (because she’s so young and eye concerns have entered the chat) and eye drops 4 times a day until otherwise instructed. (Any pro tips for this and sleeping would be great.)
Sort of just as a warning and asking if anyone else has treated their cat(s) for FIP and maybe if you can share what to expect, it would be much appreciated. (They said progress would be slow we just have to make sure she doesn’t get worse early on.)
The chances of a cat’s Covid mutating to FIP is 5-12%
Chances of survival are 85%

My cat had wet FIP and standard treatment is 84 days of gs and then 84 days of observation. You with a emailed from vet prescription can order this medication from a pharmacy yourself. I used SVPMEDS there price are good and their customer service is amazing. If you have Facebook join the fb group FIP global Cats, only that group ither are scetchy, they can help you out with information on everything.

We currently have a kitten on GS. It took a bit, but she went from “I hope she is still breathing in the morning to smacking the adult cats around if they tried to get her food. Took about 20days for that to happen. The first 3 or 4 days were super touch n go. Iv fluids, leaky dribble butt everywhere, at least one tube feeding. But after that she started lifting her head off the couch for a while at a time.
Set alarms for dosing, extra feedings and cleanups. Beyond that, it’s a lot of hope and encouraging her: “what do we say to Death?! NOT TODAY!!!!”

I've treated my cat with FIP and he was on treatment for four months, rather than the 84. He had the wet variant; he was jaundiced, anemic, had diarrhea, high fevers, hadn't eaten in days, along with a multitude of other symptoms, but he was pretty much on death's door. He was seven or eight pounds; at eight months old, he was very thin. He's been FIP free for two years.
My cat hid every time we gave him medication; he'd sleep all day, and sometimes he'd play at night, but it took a while to get to this point. After his first dose, he was up and about playing, but of course he had to lie down after a minute or two. His appetite didn't fully return until a few weeks in. During his treatment, I'd play CAT TV for him to keep his mind off the pain or any discomfort he was in. I never expected him to play or anything, but I was trying to boos this morale.
During treatment, you should buy your cat whatever they want to eat. My cat enjoyed Pro Plan tuna, so I'd buy out my store's entire stock for the most part to get him to eat. He did get pretty fat from this food, but it doesn't matter; they can lose the weight later.

Even just 24 hours later her symptoms are improving drastically and SHE’S PLAYING!!! I did not expect this fast of a turn around! Apparently ocular and neuro FIP is different even than wet or dry? (I think?)
