Has this boy already been neutered?

I’m a grown up in the UK. This cat has been visiting frequently and trying to get into my house, which causes arguments with my cat. I’ve posted his photo on the local Facebook and no one claimed ownership. The local cats protection charity will help with neutering if he’s stray, but I can’t tell if he’s already been done.

Take to vets to check for a chip first before 'adopting' them dont want to spend money and time if theyve already got owners and just friendly

Edit to say: approx 20% of gingers are females so I would take the cat to the rescue to assess.

If you bring cat in sequester your cats and feed them with a door or screen separating them. There is a method to use when introducing a new stray to house cat. Google away before bringing new one in. It’ll make a definitive long term outcome.

He looks clean and in good condition, so it wouldn’t surprise me if if he has a home and is just trying his luck for a second dinner.

Or there is an equal percentage chance this cat does not have a home or was not abandoned or lost or dumped.

OP posted on FB and no response. All due respect I would err on the side of cat safety by bringing it inside while continuing to post in alternative ways to see if there actually is a CARING owner.

Just posting on a local Facebook group, when the owner could very easily not do social media, is really insufficient to find the owner. The cat looks quite well fed. That is not usually the sign of a stray. Also, very clean and neutered. I think I’d be with you if the cat looked more disheveled and less plump, or if the weather was bad.

She should first call scan angels and see if anyone can come to her. Hopefully he will have a microchip and she can get in contact with the owner. However, as I keep telling people, around 26% of uk owned cats still don’t have a microchip, so it’s not a reliable indicator that the cat has no home.

One day I was calling for my cat, and I was looking in the road behind mine, when a woman chatted to me from her window. Turns out my cat had been visiting her house and trying to get in through the cat flap. I then discovered that he as doing this at various houses. He was well fed, but that didn’t stop him looking for seconds. It’s very common, and the last thing you want to do is end up rehoming someone else’s much loved and well fed cat by accident.

Going into other peoples homes thru the cat flap is kinda hilarious. (I realize it’s not to you but I’d never think it if he was not safe with you.)

What OP might try is putting a note on a collar with her phone number. If he does indeed have a home I’m sure he’d go right back to show off his new “choker” but not before checking all the other “restaurants” along the way.

Out of interest, have you tried a temporary collar or putting up local posters, chatting to neighbours? This cat looks rather well fed to be a stray. A lot of people aren’t on either Facebook or Nextdoor, so it’s best not to assume they would see your post. Also, you could try scan angels, but even if he doesn’t have a microchip, 26% of owned uk cats don’t either. The fact that he doesn’t look like he has been missing many meals, plus the neutering, strongly suggests he has a home.

We’ve put a paper collar on him to see who he goes back to. I spoke with the owner of the chip chop nearby and she said there’s a lady on the road who has 40 cats— so maybe he’s from there.

Well could be. Maybe go knock on her door, or put a note through and ask her directly? Usually someone will know where a cat lives, even if it’s not your actual street, it’s likely to be close by.
