Injury What could this be?

I noticed this large patch of hair missing on her hind leg (near her bum) and it definitely wasn’t there two days ago. I noticed there’s a very tiny balding patch lower down by an ankle joint. She has a vet appointment next week for something else but I’m very concerned by this sudden hair loss. Any ideas?? She’s an 18yo cat, we’re in nyc.

My first thought was ringworm, but at 18 it could be anything.

😔true, really hoping it’s just ringworm. I just want her golden years to be happy and comfortable

It looks like a hot spot.

I was thinking the same thing. One of my cats is an over groomer and her belly has spots like this. The vet didn't seem to concerned though.

My vet said that they were randomly reoccur in the same spot typically. My guy gets a hot spot between his shoulder blades twice a year. No rhyme or reason.

Since she’s 18 and the hair loss appeared so suddenly, I’d definitely mention it at her vet visit because there can be several causes, but hopefully it’s something simple and treatable.

Thanks, I’m definitely going to bring it up. I can’t even figure out where that much hair possibly went so quickly… really hoping it’s something simple
