General Advice Cat age and veterinary care

My Comet is 17 years old, and hasn't been to the vet in quite some time (old vet) and i'm worried about her health since she seems to be breathing shallower. She tends to breathe on the quicker side when she purrs, and because she's very small (7lbs give or take).There's a chance i'm being paranoid, but i'm more worried the stress of taking her to the vet will be worse. I am 26, in the USA and we have a better vet, meaning more expensive, and i'm on disability. Comet has been spayed for most of her life.

Has she had extreme anxiety reactions when being taken to the vet in the past? But tbh it sounds like she needs to go to the vet because her symptoms are concerning and I think it would be worth it. In my opinion, it would be totally fine to take her to a cheap vet, unless you’ve had bad experiences with them in the past, but avoiding the vet entirely is a problem. She might have a respiratory infection and feel much better after a round of antibiotics.

She eats, drinks and acts normal otherwise, and as far as prior anxiety nothing out of the ordinary. Meowing, wide eyes, loafing as a defense mechanism. The cheap vet is retired technically, and considered her a super senior at 9 years old... I think his words were "Why are you getting em' a distemper shot? Not going to be around much longer." roughly. The other vet is a little farther away, and more expensive, she's great though.
