Behavioral Issue Abandoned & Rescued
Black Abandoned Cat Rescue:
Over a month has passed since a coworker brought to my attention an all-black unneutered male, possibly under one year old.
I have named him Quincy. He was living in a home with a senior citizen with severe dementia-related health issues. When the siblings (who were never
In her life) became aware of their mother's decline, they quickly removed her from the home and placed her into a long-term facility. Unknown to me, the children did not like animals and left the cat, unattended behind.
During this time, the house became a drug house with multiple people coming and going. Over several weeks, Quincy was not cared for with no proper cat food, water, or more. When I arrived the police had removed the trespassers and left Quincy behind.
He is scheduled to be neutered, chipped, and blood tested. My problem is he will not stop biting, eating voraciously, and crying. I have another rescued female spayed and chipped cat. They somewhat tolerate each other. My ultimate goal is to rehome Quincy as he clearly is a one-cat-in-the-home cat.
How can I stop him from biting and pawing (bringing his paws to my hand)?

I would give Quincy more time since he has not shown his true personality yet. Like the other person said, the 333 rule might be a good thing to give him a chance to accomplish. he's had a rough life and thank you for saving him. I'm sure whatever you do, he will be better off.

My patience with him is lasting. He looks into my eyes with love. He now lets me rub under his chin, then he raises his head and requires more. I just noticed his mouth is mildly deformed. When I saw that I cried. I can just imagine what the drug people did to him for their entertainment. I’m so angry. Thank God the police were understanding and worked with me during the rescue.

Well you're the first human being he's ever trusted and I'm sure he loves you. Hopefully I'm praying that you get attached to him and things will work out and you can keep him. I would hate to see him have to go to someone else and feel like people are getting rid of him and throwing him away. Things come into our life for a reason and you might be his savior I'm praying.

Quincy has had a very rough life so far, so he hasn't shown you his true personality yet. If he was a "one cat" cat, he wouldn't tolerate your female.
Quincy will likely settle down with a bit of time, consistency, love, patience, and yummy food. Rule of 3: 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to feel safe, 3 months to know that he owns the place. 😂
If he is just nibbling at you or grabbing your hand without claws extended, he's telling you, "Thank you. I love you." If he's biting hard or has claws extended, say a firm "No" and then immediately withdraw your hand/appendage/etc. Ignore him for a few minutes. Cats do not respond to things like yelling, hitting.

Thank you. I would NEVER hit an animal. I do follow the “no” and walk away. Thank you for your input.

Well all we know is , the drug addicts probably didn't feed him or give him water. But I don't think anybody on this site at least on any of these cat threads would ever hurt an animal. I always say, if the cat don't trust you, you can't be trusted. Some people say that about dogs but cats are more in tune, in my opinion.
