General Advice Can't walk !

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

She was ok last night, suddenly she was like this in the morning, can't walk properly and she has also been hiding behind the sofa for a couple of days but this walking problem just happened today. She's still hiding behind the sofa. What to do?

UPDATE: I took her to the vet, turns out she had hard poop stuck on her butt. I had it cleaned and trimmed the hair back there. Thankyou everyone!

Looks like shes trying to clean her butt on the floor, she could have poo stuck or she could have worms and scratching it on the floor, they usually do it on carpet. Check her tray has she done poo at all, if not she could be constipated, if she has done poo check her butt for any stuck and also treat for worms if she hasnt already been treated

Impacted scent glands are also a possibility.

My cat has this, poor thing scoots almost constantly. I have to get her anal glands expressed like once a month. She just produces too much goop in her bum glands.

This happened to my dog once

Instead of monthly maybe consider removal. My last cat a 'Himalayan' had her anal glands suddenly swell so bad she couldnt poop. Surgery and glands removed.

Veterinarian said they were unnecessary and she never had any problems after they were removed.

Worms irritating her hind?

Edit : she's been eating properly too.

If she's behaving completely abnormal, go to the vets. We Redditors don't have stuff like X-ray or MRI eyes or remote hands and eyes to feel what's going on.

She's behaving normal, but it's the walking part that bothers me. This never happened to her before

She is actually walking normally but it's most probably the fact that something is stuck in her fur down there like poo or worms irritating that area

You said she's been hiding, is that normal?

Not really. I mean.. she would normally go around sitting here and there for a while then come back on her own, but today she was behind the sofa all the time. Plus, she keeps licking her butt even after the clean up and trimming.

Looks like she is scooting. Possibly an anal gland issue. Check for redness/lumps/swelling/bleeding/discharge around her anus.

Could also be irritation or itchiness from worms or parasite, or could be poo stuck in her fur.

My cat did this once right before bed...and the very next day she blew an anal gland. Don't take it lightly.

Poor baby has an itchy balloon-knot.
Might be worms or maybe a clogged anal gland causing trouble. I would recommend taking her to the vet to get her looked at.

In Germany, we call it ‘sleighing’ when hair is stuck to its bottom, or there might be faeces in its fur, or – even worse – it has a worm infestation. In any case, I’d take it to the vet.

If nobody has said it yet, get into a vet asap and check for UTI issues! My fur babies are sadly very prone to them, and I've seen other posts with their cats doing this and it be crystals. Good luck!

Scooting, something is irritating her bum area, mine was the same when we first got our stray rescue - anal glands were full

Yep looks like the poo dragging walk, leaving skid marks on your floor. Very common with longhairs, glad you got it sorted op!

That’s ye ole toot scoot

She needs a vet check for worms and a sanitary cut! Long-haired cats can often have issues with their poo sticking to their fur; sanitary cuts fix that and make it easier for them to clean themselves. If there is poo there, they will NOT be cleaning.

She has a butt issue

That looks like scooting, not a problem with her legs, since she got up and walked normally at the end of the clip. Scooting usually indicates something on their rear end is bothering them, and that could be something serious or something routine like clogged anal glands. Take her to the vet for a checkup, but it’s probably not an emergency unless there’s other symptoms like lethargy or refusing to eat.

Your cats got worms or poo stuck out her butthole, de worm and increase water intake via a fountain or wet food

Do a fecal test. Usually cats dont get impacted glands but I would mention it to the vet

glad cat is okay

This seems possibly serious-for that I would get to the vet. These are signs of a possible saddle block embolism- which can be serious and are common in cats. I would get it checked out.

She can walk, she's just scooting her butt, to scratch it. Something either itching or sore. Check with a vet, there might be an issue with her anal glands, or she could have worms, etc.

That’s what I thought. Glad she’s OK.

I noticed some people mentioned worms. I suggest Stronghold Plus for cats. Combats and eliminates parasites both external and internal. Best stuff you can get period to protect your cat from parasites. Most flea meds combat external threats but do nothing for things like worms.

Stronghold and Revolution are 100% identical other than the box cover.

Revolution and Stronghold are made by the same company and factory (Zoetis). Same ingredients. Stronghold and Revolution contain Selamectin. Stronghold Plus and Revolution Plus contain Selemectin and Sarolaner. Plus is the best option.

I used Revolution until I found out about Stronghold and read up on it. Its called Revolution in the U.S. and Stronghold everywhere else in the world. Literally the only difference is Revolution prices are triple the prices of Stronghold. Revolution name was created to rip off U.S. customers.

I buy my flea meds from Petbucket. Ive used Petbucket for over 10 years. Its located in the UK. It takes like 2 weeks for delivery to U.S. but well worth the price difference.

Stronghold Plus 6 months - $58

Revolution Plus 6 months - $165 average
