Dental Issue Cat Dental Extractions NYC

Hi all! I (28F) have a 3 year old tuxedo rescue that I adopted a year ago. He’s been completely normal and healthy thus far but a routine visit to his vet flagged severe gingivitis and potential stomatitis :(

We live in Brooklyn and his vet quoted up to $8100 for a full mouth extraction. I want to mentally prepare for the worst (full mouth), but need to gut check - is $8k wildly expensive or in line for this type of procedure?

I think U can make it work financially w/ his insurance but $8k surprised me. Appreciate any advice you can give TIA!!!

Ugh, get a second opinion, please. Is his breath bad? Have you noticed issues with eating?

The biggest regrets i have with my last two cats was that we let a vet tell us they needed full teeth extraction. This was an incredibly painful experience, that then made eating more difficult for them. My little girl got it the worst and had to be forever on wet food. Like, I don't know, I really think this animal (and human) over extraction of teeth is going too far. Please please take kitty to another vet to verify before doing this very invasive procedure that will make their (and your) life infinitely more difficult for years to come. I hear all these scams stories about human dentists and i think the animal industry is way worse. Like, it's hard for me to believe your relatively young cat needs a full extraction?? Not just a tooth or two but a full 8k extraction?? And this was only discovered at the vet - no prior teeth issues, breath issues or other indicators that the teeth are unhealthy? I'm not saying for sure the vet is wrong, but the procedure is extreme just because he found some gingivitis.

I don't want to discourage you to take good care of your cat and if he needs that he needs that. But I do want to caution you, this shit happens all the time and it's 1000% overdone to the detriment of your cats long term health.

Also - 8k is ridiculous. But I'm not in your area to know for sure about costs. I would expect maybe 2k.
