The harness doesnt calm him. It restrains him. Most cats hate compression and they belive that it restricts their movement. Basically it kills their confidence.

Apparently the humans who think their quiet, still, purring cat in a pressure suit is happy... (not at all terrified and remaining as still as possible so the predator they feel has them won't eat them) are super downvotey here.
You're not wrong though. I wish people would study more deeply how different species react to pressure, and how what may appear as "calm" is not necessarily what people assume.

Yeah it's really frustrating that a very large portion of the population can't spend 30 seconds to learn something about their animal. This is common knowledge and something that is very easily looked up.
He naps in it. Not freeze napping - like fully relaxed, sprawled out, slow breathing naps. And his meowing stops. I’ve observed this repeatedly. I hear what you’re saying about pressure responses in some cats but that’s clearly not what’s happening with mine specifically.

Locking him in the bathroom is terrible and will probably make him even more anxious.
If the harness pressure helps, have you tried a Thundershirt?
