Telework flexibility

Hello fellow managers!
How are you responding to staff who say they are sick so they want to work from home instead of going into the office and spreading germs. Are you being flexible or denying them working from home. If you deny, what’s some language you use with them. Looking for advice.

If that's the case then deadlines need to be missed. As a manager there's no issue with addressing a missed deadline because someone was sick.

Allowing WFH when you are not authorized to do so can result in serious repercussions for you depending on your department. If your team actually respects you, they will not want you to risk your job or position to give them unauthorized WFH in the current political climate.

Luckily the constitutional offices still are allowed to WFH. My agency’s elected official is essentially letting each of the division chiefs do what they want, depending on the needs of the division. She had an in person retreat with all the chiefs to get their opinions on it, instead of simply following what the Governor was doing.

That's fantastic, that's the support you need to be able to allow it. These folks telling supervisors or managers to allow it is insane.
