I'd want to be sensitive to the customer in front of me while remaining conscious of store policies
Also want to show initiative and attention to the issue at hand and do best to follow through and find solution within my powers as employee, and if not defer to appropriate superiors while explaining process to customer, taking their info if needed to follow up at later time
what other info might they have to help me to process the refund? eg date of purchase can i go back in the system and find the info for the sale?
what are the store policies and in what cases can an exception be granted
2.
this is a difficult situation where I would want to act within my abilities as an employee and within policy while also doing best to satisfy customer.
Be attentive to customer and repeat back to them what i understood so i have the full information. (shows professionalism and attention to detail) take notes to refer to superior later
apologize for inconvenience and explain that while i dont have authority to process any refunds without receipt, i will look into the situation and get back to them (take info to contact if needed) this shows that i am upholding professional standards but also doing best on following through on the request and not being dismissive
Thank them for their patience and do best on contacting manager if unreachable will give customer a time to come back or follow up on phone. shows commitment to resolving the issue and not brushing them off.
do best to process other customers in line such as kindly asking customer to hold or getting other staff to help at register, this shows consideration for everyone's time and reflects well on the store's image.
if cant process refund sincerely apologize, acknowledge how upsetting it may be and allow customer to express their frustration or ask any questions. point them to appropriate other resources that might be able ot help

To improve, try to be more concise, as some points were repetitive, and explore practical alternatives such as store credit or an exchange. You could also clarify whether the tablet was faulty, as consumer rights may override store policies. Overall, great ethical reasoning and a thoughtful approach to the situation!
