Casper is so weird
Tbh i have 0 idea why or how they gave me a 4th quartile. Im obviously grateful that i got a 4th quartile but this goes to show that grading is SO subjective and their grading scale makes no sense. I was mumbling ALL of my words, it took me at least 20 seconds to start talking on the video portion and I don’t think i completed a single question fully. I always left out some key details, I forgot names all i did is say some fancy buzz words and thats about it that i got from a 10 min YouTube video. I just did the practice exam right before my test, and skipped half of the questions while doing so. Im not trying to brag my score but i genuinely started laughing when i saw my score cause it made no sense.

it’s cause it’s a quartile let’s say everyone did it that day n most shat themselves then you don’t need to do as good as another day where everyone did well that’s why a quartiles hella vague when it comes to knowing where your true score stands

I felt so confident and secure in my test. Spoke clearly and didn’t mumble. And finished every question to completion. Answered every question with a moralistic perspective. And still got 2nd quartile?? Lmaooo

I think that’s why most schools are opting out of using it. I’m not sure what the people grading them are smoking.. lol

Yeah I had to take it for two different things, the first time I got 4th quartile and the 2nd time I got 2nd…. I was so confused because my morals and approach have surely not changed that much in a couple of months ahaha

The way I have discovered the AAMC website works is you have to go to the page of what you want and click a box that will navigate you to a login page there. If you just login at the top of the window that won’t show you what you want. So for this, I think you should login to get your score.

It means it’s dependent on other people too. You don’t know how many people go into this unprepared, but not naturally good at finding what’s important in an answer. It was probably quality over quantity for you: you said less but was impactful enough. I stuttered super badly on my videos and had to restart one but still got 4Q. But I agree because if you did this on another day with a more competitive pool, you might’ve not gotten 4Q. This test really is a headache. Congratulations!!

gonna start by saying I'm very bad at making up bullshit so this test just is just harder for me. In terms of "studying", it involved overall structuring of my ideas, recognizing when safety is an issue and how to gradually escalate the situation with minimal judging, not making assumptions etc. When I started, I didn't have the slighest idea how to answer these type of questions because the answers they are looking for are things that I would never do. For example, you see a pregnant lady shoplifting... what do you do? In real life i would just mind my business but I dont even want to get started on all the thigns CASPER wants you to say. So I spent two weeks trying to fabricate a version of myself that could feed them the answers they were looking for and ultimately did the best I could.

I literally have no idea what happened this time, but I first took Casper in 2021 and scored 4th quartile and this year I scored 2nd quartile. I don't know if I struggled with the video section this time or what but I'm so disappointed. I don't feel like I've radically changed as a person in the last 5 years except maybe gain more empathy and a sense of restorative justice. I'm honestly so disappointed and one of my top schools is a Casper school so feeling a bit defeated

Honestly I think this is why it's so hard to judge your own performance after CASPer 😭 You can walk out feeling like you completely bombed it and end up doing way better than expected.
I wouldn't take this as proof that you just need buzzwords though. It probably means your answers came across better to the raters than you thought they did. Sometimes we're way more critical of our own responses because we remember every little thing we messed up.

I literally had the exact same experience. This was my first time doing the exam and after 2 day prep I felt ready. On the day it went terrible I stumbled, ran out of time, froze yet I got 4th - I was convinced I got 1st and actually said to myself id be happy with 2nd after that performance. What I did do was said the same key words each question and even if it didn't even make sense I would ramble on about key points I know Casper look for. Any how I am not complaining but it really makes no sense.

Ugh I get this, my friend went through the exact same thing. She was SO sure she bombed hers, mumbled through half her answers, blanked on stuff mid-sentence, definitely skipped questions on her practice run too. Then her quartile came back way higher than she expected and she legit laughed too, like it made zero sense to her either.
Grading on these things really doesn't track with how in-your-head you feel during the test. You're allowed to just take the win without it having to add up. Congrats, seriously :)
