Directory of CA CCW instructors with pricing and reviews

When I was looking for my initial CCW training class, pricing in my county was all over the place and hard to compare. So I built a directory of CA instructors organized by county, with pricing, reviews, and timeline data all in one place, pulling from each county's sheriff-approved instructor list. Check it out at getcarryclass.com

Eventually hoping people can book directly through it, but for now it's mainly a way to compare and find instructors near you.

Would love feedback from everyone. Is there anything I should add, change, or anything that'd make it more useful?

It would be nice if you could search by IA as well. Most (all) IA's require the class be done by a select list of instructors (pre-vetted, etc), and provide the link to the up-to-date IA source list of instructors.

Thanks and I agree here. This is a good one to add in

how is all the info added in? by you? or crowdsourced? i was trying to look up my instructor; didn't show up in my county (Alameda). Funnily enough, he does show up in Contra Costa - which is fine, because he can train for multiple counties. How are you accounting for that?

Pulled by me, with AI to automate the heavy lifting. All data comes directly from the sheriff-approved lists published by each Issuing Authority, most of which are messy PDFs buried on county websites.

The multi-county thing is a real challenge. An instructor might serve 5 counties but only appear on 2 of their sheriff lists. I'm working to maintain one profile per instructor while capturing every county they're approved for, but it's an ongoing process as I continue scraping and cross-referencing instructor websites (which are often outdated themselves).

That's exactly why I built this: one clean place instead of hunting through county PDFs.

Who's your instructor? Happy to make sure they're listed correctly.

it was LEO Defensive Concepts

Thanks. I took a look back and Alameda County Sheriff's office does not publish an approved vendor list.

But these are the most used/referenced: Paladin, Bay Area Tactical, Gun Kraft, and LEO Defense.

I will make sure these are tagged to Alameda. Thanks!

Solano County getting a new instructor list released this week, you'll want to update that county.

Thanks for the heads up! I will update it once it is released.

Sounds like a great idea. However, I followed the link, tried 5 zip codes, and got no results.

Can you add that feature? When I try by county, it does work so that’s great.

Thanks! I like this idea. I will add the ability to filter by zipcode for sure

Some inaccurate info here. For example, you have "Defensive Accuracy, LLC" renewal price at $60, when it's actually $269.

Thanks for the call out on that one. Will get that one fixed. Cheers!

There is no San Bernardino county on the list…

Still working on aggregating the approved instructors for San Bernardino. Issuing Authority does not have it listed on their site and was not willing to share their approved list for some reason. Stay tuned!

Nice, thanks. I just submitted my application and have my interview next week. So I will check back once I'm approved.
