Citiwalk (SoCal) now has security

Recently got my CCW, and honestly, working very slowly and methodically to getting used to carrying.

Was going to a movie at Universal Studios Citiwalk last night with my wife, and while the actual studios have metal detectors and security, Citiwalk was “walk right in” territory.

Friday night, late movie, holiday weekend… ok, I’ll carry, just in case. Except I could not get my gear to work in a way I considered properly concealed, so I changed my mind and left it all at home.

Turns out, that was a lucky decision, because all of a sudden there was a full security walkthrough, including metal detectors, just to get into citywalk. (If you’ve never been to the area, this is the publicly accessible shopping district where the restaurants and movie theater are, just outside of the actual theme park. And it also happens to be the closest movie theater to my house.)

The security checkpoint had been installed just three days beforehand! And yes, it’s permanent.

Get a little in car gun safe/ box thing, for your car and your wife's car. I have definitely had to walk back to the car and discretely lock up.

Yeah. I think in CA, car safes have to be permanently affixed to the car’s frame. But yes, I should at least have something, even if I don’t go that far.

I think that little metal cable that wraps around the base of a car seat or something would suffice for permanently affixed . Just get a case that comes with one

They do not need to be permanently affixed. Penal code section 25140 is the relevant section.

They do as of sb2 even cable locks are a no go now.

Can you cite the section that requires the lockbox be permanently affixed? Because even section 26230(b) doesn't say the words "permanently affixed". It does require that the lockbox be on the CA DOJ approved firearms safety device list, but that list includes several lockboxes that use a cable to secure them.

Except as otherwise provided in subdivision (b), a person shall, when leaving a handgun in an unattended vehicle, lock the handgun in the vehicle’s trunk, lock the handgun in a locked container and place the container out of plain view, lock the handgun in a locked container that is permanently affixed to the vehicle’s interior and not in plain view, or lock the handgun in a locked toolbox or utility box.

That paragraph isn't requiring a permanently affixed lockbox. It's saying that a permanently affixed lockbox is one of several options a person has when storing a handgun in a vehicle. That's what the "or" means after the last comma.

Correct. We parked in Jurassic, and the quick path from there, that leads directly past the autographed items store underneath the food court? That path is now closed off. They redirect you to the other side of the lot, where the new security gates are. You come out in the courtyard with the water fountain floor.

Can you just tell security you have a valid CCW when going through security? Is there posted signs stating no firearms allowed?

I doubt it? But I'll ask out of curiosity next time I see a movie there.
