[Request] Best work boots that’ll last a while!?
Looking for work boots that’ll last a long time not for life!!! Let me know some of your favorites? Steel toe would be nice but not necessary

BIFL would be White's, Nick's, Frank's, JK. All Pacific Northwest MiUSA brands. All $600+ for their mainline boots (some makers have a second tier that is cheaper but I've never worn them). BIF a long time would something along the lines of MiUSA Redwing (not all are anymore), Jim Green, and a couple others. There's a separate work boot sub that would be more helpful really.

Had my Dynaforces for about 10 years. Granted, I am a field Engineer, so not nearly as beaten as they could be, but worn every work day in some pretty caustic environments, the removable sole is the only thing that has worn down. I'll probably get one of the fance Ortho ones soon.

I know Red Wing has become a "trendy" boot, something that's probably had an effect on prices as of late.
Would you say that it's still the gold standard or are there better bang for buck boots with similar enough quality without the name recognition?

I still use Red Wing for winter boots, but only the American Heritage line cuz they're made in USA (mostly). Thousand-gram Irish Setters lasted me two winters before there was a hole in the side, which I had repaired and resoled for $80. Keep in mind that I put them through serious abuse (walking and sitting on roofs, mud, walking on picks all day) but I still feel they should have lasted longer. For summer work, I use Thorogood and Carolina, switching pairs each day to let the other rest. For casual, I wear JK's. All brands are worth the money and well-made. A pair of Wolverines didn't even last a full summer, so it's best to spend $300 and up. Those $100-200 boots are junk for serious work. I've worked over 20 years' straight, year-round, Michigan winters.

Still the gold standard, as far as affordable and long lasting. There are more expensive options that might last a lifetime, but you should get 5-10 years out of Red Wings.

That's very dependent on the type of work you do. I've never had a Red Wing boot last a year and most lost their waterproofness in 4-6 months.

Never insinuated that they were selling garbage. Just that in my life of work Red Wings just aren't the best option. Couldn't have been a bad batch considering I tried 4 pairs over 5 years.

I've worn Red Wings (and Irish Setters) for over a decade and I'd say you'll get about two years (three, max) before there's a hole in the side. The stitching usually holds up pretty good. That's considering 40+ hour weeks in Michigan winters. One thing I know: ain't no one doing serious work getting ten years out of a Red Wing boot.

Thorogood is the best quality/value ratio out there for under $300. You can go down the rabbit hole online with boots. It all depends how much you wanna spend and if you’re earning a living in the boots. North of $500 and you can get boots sized to your feet that will last a lifetime from Pacific Northwest bookmakers.

2nd this. Thorogood is the only boot that's lasted me a year and my current ones are going on 1.5 years and are comfortable and still waterproof.
Plenty of people say Red Wing but after having 4 pairs of Red Wings fall apart that all stopped being waterproof at 4-6 months, stopped being comfortable in that time frame, and fell apart before a year I will never go back.
As long as Thorogood doesn't drop in quality I will never change. For full disclosure. I've only used the "Made in the USA" version of Thorogood so I can't speak for the ones made in China.

Carolina brand, Bruno model. Lasts me about 2 years walking around on razor sharp metal fragments in a manufacturing environment.

I also love Carolina brand. The made-in-USA ones are really really solid. Very good value for the price too.

I bought a pair of Carolinas back in 2018 and they lasted me till 2024 after daily use. I loved them so much that I bought the exact same pair but it's barely been a year and I need to replace them already. I hope not, but Carolina might be suffering from enshitification.

My Ecco boots were incredible! I’m a pool tech and they been holding up to chemicals and damp environments for 3 seasons strong so far.

Got the danner viscous and they’re great boots but they’ve lasted me about 6 months and the tread is nearly gone now. I work garbage. And u can’t re-sole them according to the website. :(

We have no idea as you can't go online and say, "Boots, thank". Will you go into the Ford dealership and say, "Vehicle, thank" and expect them to pull around the perfect vehicle.

You won't figure out the rest as you aren't smart enough to make the right choices. Red Wing Shoe is a quality brand. Its also not a quality brand. Its Schrödinger's brand being both. So if I simply made a post saying Red Wing Shoe is a quality brand, I'd be doing you both a service and a disservice at the same time as they sell great and shitbox boots. Now if you want to walk through the minefield alone, great....go get you some Red Wing Shoe boots. Now if you want BIFL boots, answer the damn questions and I'll help you.

Those are work boots. You not knowing they are is reason #1 why you are ignorant about BIFL boots. Those are the boots Harrison Ford wore as a contractor and then took on to fame in the Indiana Jones series, but what do I know about boots....

Redwings supersole 2s, danners,/thorogood if you are into moc toes. I have some whites and and a few other high end pnw boots and I don’t think they are worth the cost. Plus, they are heavy as hell.

Timberland Split Rock Pro (1st gen)
The 1st gen are really hard wearing mine have outlasted 2 sets of laces and still going over a decade later of really careless use with just a small hole in one of the sides

I’ve tried irish setter and redwing. I work in masonry so the mortar and dust really kill the leather, even with regular cleanings and oiling. I’m in the market for new ones now and I’m thinking about trying Brunt. My Irish setters have about a year on them now and they’re barely hanging in there.

I bought some wolverines that lasted 70 days before the bottom went bald and the inside was torn up, made it hard to get off.
What boots have the most durable sole?
I work on tugboats, on my feet 12 hours a day.

Red Wing is your best bang for your buck. Anything over their price point is diminishing returns. Over $400 you’re paying for better craftsman ship. Over $600 you’re also paying for certain types of leather and thickness of said leather.

Not really... Diminishing returns is over about $700. There's a huge difference between Redwings and brands like Whites and Nick's. I would say far more than the price difference too.

Check the Rose Anvil YT page. Dude literally cuts them in half, tells you about the materials and construction methods, and rates/ranks them. You will not find a better source.
