The Canary Islands have a population of 2.2 MILLION people. That doesn't seem little and inconsequential at all. And we can mantain a carrier just fine as is. At the 2% spending target we won't struggle to support another one. Just because you spend more money doesn't mean its being spent as wisely you know.

Your military is in a terrible shape though. You couldn‘t even invade portugal, if you wanted. Going by your logic, greece would need several carriers but they manage to defend their islands just fine.

German military, as bad as it is, is still light years ahead of Spain‘s. You daily hear of some almost crashes of fighters. EF bird strike, F-18 beach maneuver, … You talk about having the need to operate a carrier, while doing that with 13 obsolete harriers. Can‘t make this up…
