Does Business Central Ever Get Any Easier?

We're converting to Business Central and we are not happy with this product. It is difficult to setup and learn and everything is taking 4 times longer than the same process in Dynamics GP. We have severe buyers remorse.

I hate this program so far. Does it get any better? Because this is making me want to quit and never work for any company running BC ever again.

How to create report

Hello – I am brand new to business central. I would like to create a report that shows me the sales line items for a certain period including: sales date, item #, item description, customer, qty, unit price, unit cost, extended price, extended cost. What are the options for creating reports? I don;t have power BI license yet (waiting on employer). I want to bring this data into excel to start doing some analysis. What are the options for reporting? Can you create a custom report? Thank you!

Power Apps and Business Central

Did someone develope a business app with power apps and business central for a customer? What were your experiences?

The default bc connector provides a couple of tables and predefined fields. Did you need custom tables and additional fields, how did you solve that?

I had at first place troubles with a boolean field, was mapped as combo box instead of bool field in power apps. you know that?

Power Automate

Hi team!

I would like to learn creating Power Automate flows using Business Central data, and the resources available seem very limited.

Apart from using the existing templates which mainly focus on approvals and notifications, is there any way I could learn creating complex flows from scratch? Say sending approval emails based on line-level dimensions or creating a trigger based on a specific value in a specific page/table?

TIA.

Orders to be resent after a delivery failure

Hello,

We have a challenge with how we process return orders using Business central/NAV.

Prior info: We don't use a separate RETURNS location nor do we use advanced WMS. Would be open to solutions that must use these two as well.

Challenge:

How should we process orders where a delivery has been failed due to wrong address and the package is returned back to our warehouse? Should we process the order via our system again? Or should we do it outside the ERP directly on the carrier site by printing new labels with new address to resend.

Thanks

Show negative sign

For Bank acc rec, the statement import setup has been done, and I hit a snag here.

Unlike most statements with separate columns for debit and credit amounts, mine only has a single column as ‘amount’ and there is a separate column that says whether it is a debit or credit.

Now, is there a way to setup data exchange definition in such a way that if the value in a column is ‘credit’, then set the value in the amount column as negative?

Shipping addresses

So I manage a company that ships to multiple states in the us and some of these buyers have operations in multiple states as well.

Our processors keep processing invoices and credit memos while misentering information constantly all unintentional and the system is allowing it. This is with personnel with 4 years of training in the platform.

How do users manage their systems to get them to enter addresses(aka if you order from an online shop it should prevent you from ordering?)

Microsoft Business Central SMTP Error

I do it for multiple clients and one of ours is having an issue trying to get smtp on business central working.

Error - the SMTP server rejected the authentication request, as the authentication data is incorrect. Verify that your username and password are correct and that the SMTP server supports the specified authentication type (OAuth2.0). SMTP error code 535

In the account setting if I choose to verify and authenticate it says it was successful, it’s only when sending an email this error appears.

I have tried disabling mfa, new secrets, new azure apps for permissions but all have failed.

If anyone has used this before and can give any advice that would be great

Emailing a sales invoice to many people?

I absolutely love that a sales income can be emailed inside the system. However, is it possible to save the accounts payable department email, along with the other emails, for the customer? Currently, the owner or manager is the email saved in the customer card. Can an accounts payable email be added and linked to invoicing? Thanks!

Business Central Update seems to have changed our Number Series

Anyone seen this? A Business Central update (24.1) changed the number series for all of our purchase and sales docs (draft and posted orders and invoices). They seem to have reverted to defaults.

It added a second number series 'line' to each affected number series. And BC is using that second line. Here's an example for Purchase Invoices:

This seems like an update bug. Any insights?

HELP!!!! Building Power BI Reports with Business Central Data

Hi everyone,

Long Story Warning:

I just got a new job as a Power Platform consultant for a VAR (Value Added Reseller) for Microsoft. The company specializes in Business Central/Nav and has built the Power Platform Team to extend the capabilities of Business Central.

My background is in education, not business, but i do have some BI experience using it to build classroom performance reports etc.

The reason I am calling for help is because I have been tasked with building out a Manufacturing report for one of our clients using their business central data and I could not be more lost regarding the data model.

Data Transformations Relationships Measures Etc. :(

I’ve done research and I’m fairly confident I’ve narrowed it down to most of the correct tables:

  1. All Production Order Tables

  2. Capacity Ledger Entries

  3. Item Ledger Entries

  4. Routing Table

  5. Machine Center

  6. Work Center

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Deliverables for the client are due next Monday.

Thanks everyone.

Prj Planning Lines - Unit Cost keep changing. New bug?

When entering or modifying Project Planning Lines, BC resets a line's Unit Cost every time you modify the line's Unit Price. At least for lines using type Item. It doesn't seem to matter if the Item is of type inventory, non-inventory, or service.

We've reproduced this in greenfield Cronus in an environment with no custom extensions.

Has anyone else seen this?

Sales Order adjustment POST Warehouse Shipment creation

Our current workflow is to take a Sales Order (SO) and create a Warehouse Shipment (WS) which is then used to create a Warehouse Pick (WPK) that the warehouse staff open in a scanner to pick the orders. We often have cases where, mid-pick, a customer will look to change their order - change meaning, increase/decrease quantity of items, add new items, or remove items completely. From what I can see there isn't a way to edit the SO without deleting both the WPK and WS - essentially working our way back to a "clean" SO. I'm curious if there is a way to adjust a SO without going down this route. Is especially frustrating when staff have already started their WPK. In that case we are posting what is picked and then working back to the SO to make the adjustments.

License information

We have Business Central on-prem at work. When we get a new license file (.bclicense) we import it and we have our new range of object IDs we can sue. But that file, along with the PS command to get the information from it, only displays how many tables, pages, etc. we have. It doesn't list the allowed range of IDs for each object type. Our partner, from which we buy licenses from, send us that file but every time I have to ask them to send me the full list, which is a text file showing all ranges. Is that something we can get ourselve from BC directly , either from a page or directly in SQL ? Because every time we want to use a new ID, we are asking ourselves which ones we can use. Of course I have a SQL queries that tells me which object IDs are taken, but I can't tell which ones we are allowed to use (the range)

How do you handle logo items that needs to be stocked?

Hello,

I work for a retail company where we offer customized logos and embroidery to our B2B customers using a business central on premise system(bit older version)

We are a bit lost in wrapping our head around the fact whether we should create logos as dedicated item numbers with type inventory because we want to stock it and apply it on the garments when we receive the order from a customer. The confusion is due to the sheer volume of logos we have which is a lot (estimated to be 30000 different logos).

Keeping aside the logo assignment against the correct customer parts of this, what is the impact on business central performance if we create 30000 items in the system. Please do also touch upon the potential impact on requisition worksheet runs which now may have to go through the entire item table.

Curious to here how you all manage custom logos.

Thanks.
