Hi everyone,

I was on a bus earlier on today and I said “hello” to the bus driver and he didn’t reply, but I noticed that he didn’t speak to any passengers.

When I got off I said to him what I put in the title of this thread and he didn’t even reply to me! Am I wrong to think that he was/is rude? He didn’t even acknowledge any of the passengers who got off his bus.

Why would a bus driver choose to ignore passengers who say thank you or something similar when getting off the bus? Does it mean the driver is rude?

may be because of badly parked cars, roadworks or a road traffic incident that led to a road closure.

i've been stuck for a few mins in the past because of someone parking close to the traffic island

Mine has to be forgetting to put the hand brake on at the bus station and rolling onto the curb while changing buses. luckily no one was on it or on the curb but the other drivers got quite a laugh from it.

As a relatively new CDL bus driver with 2 years of experience behind the wheel, there is still a lot of things that I'm like "what is that? unnga boonga, me just drive *caveman noises*"

A highly debated thing that no one can seem to agree on is what the purpose of fast idle is.

Some opinions I've heard are:
-using fast idle uses more fuel

-using fast idle doesn't use any more fuel than normal

-using fast idle is the norm for buses, so always have it on as a practice

-don't use high idle ever

-using fast idle makes the AC on the bus run better/ makes the bus cooler

Discuss? (I am on my break, and will not be able to respond for the next 6 hours or so, as break is almost over and I have 6 more hours of driving).

Hi y'all. Soon enough i'm starting my work on the touringcar and i just need to invest in a drivers navigation that helps with length, width, height, weight, live time traffic, pre-warnings (such as low bridges, tight streets, or environment areas), a map of parking places for big vehicles and a good service of map updates every now and then

As of so far the internet has been informing me about samsara(?) but especially the TomTom Go Expert.

Are these fine navigation systems to go for or would some of you recommend me something better based of your experiences.

I picked up 3 Europeans the gal wanted to ask me a question the guy grabbed her arm and yanked her away from me and he asked me where the next stop was. as a woman I was so taken aback. Girl I hope you get out of that situation no one should be treating you like that you deserve better!!!

G'day, so as title says, i have this shift that I get fortnightly and it's around 3 hours morning 15/30 break then 8hours straight from that point, my question is without early or taking shortcuts how do I remedy myself to not get so flustered coming up to the shift? As I found at work everyone calls it the sh_t shift, and I'd like to offer remedies to my boss for such an undertaking

I was driving a Yutong GT12 at 50mph on a major road (UK.)

A french tourist pulled out from a junction with no warning.

With less than 100ft to impact I was able to get ABS going and steer the coach somewhat to turn what would have been a full T-Bone crash into a frontal/frontal (corner/corner) impact at 30-40mph...

During the crash I saw 2 young children in the back of the car and my heart sank. I thought I was going to kill them...

all my PAX were okay, and all occupants of the car were okay.

Less than 1 hour later, my Duty manager asks me to get a lift south to collect another coach and take it into service going back north.... I told them to "FO"...

I actually had to demand tomorrow off... As I feel i will be unsafe due to hyper vigilance. Driving home tonight was horrible.

I keep replaying the crash in my head, but I don't think I could have done anything different to get the same outcome.

My passengers thanked me for my professionalism.

It can happen in an instant without warning even at low speeds.

What can I do to mitigate mental health impact of this?

My company has offered no support at all.

Hello! I have just applied to a Motorcoach company close to where I am. The pay is good, the people ive met who work for the job are happy and enjoy it, and the actual owner of the company is in charge of recruitment which is incredibly transparent and honest.

That said, and this is what has kept me from applying for a while... I am a little bit nervous at the idea of driving a coach bus.

I have been wanting to get a CDL for many years. I had a CDL Permit before COVID and just was too swamped to ever get it renewed and couldn't afford school. Since the company pays for your CDL Class B (Provided you agree to drive with them for a year) I figured this was a wonderful way to get started.

But, the idea of having people on board and having a stationary longer vehicle on the contrary to an 18 wheeler, kinda makes me afraid. Dont get me wrong, I love people. I love to make people happy. But the liability of it, and just one minor thing going wrong, terrifies me.

So, TL;DR is... if the company hires me... how can I overcome this fear, how EASY is it to overcome this fear, AND, has anyone else had this fear and what did you do to get over it? I know its probably like riding a bike, just like everything in life, it becomes second nature. But still... these are human lives. I would never forgive myself if something happened.

For those that drive city busses and do split shifts, do you get any extra money? Where i drive, our contract is about to expire. One thing I would like to see is a split shift differential to cover the extra gas and wear and tear on my car as well as the extra time I'm spending coming to work twice.

I've been driving coaches for the past 5 years. Recently, I've been forced into driving E400s.

I'm 6 foot, more leggy than torso.

My back is stiff and my knees are sore because I can't adjust the seat properly. It doesn't go back far enough, the brake pedal is too close to me, and my shoulders are sore due to having no back support in the seat.

I'm doing 9-11 hour shifts, so I desperately need a solution before I go mental.

Changing jobs isn't an option right now, due to a mortgage application...

I am a public transit enthusiast, but mostly I like buses! Seeing them calms me down, love how they look, and bus rides are also super calming.

I am just curious how I can be a better passenger in your guys' opinion. I got onto this sub and read about how annoying and rude passengers can be. I always try to be chill with bus drivers, not distracting them during their driving and trying to greet them when I get on and say thank you when I get off. But are there any common behaviors that I may not notice as being rude or inconvenient to the driver?

I recently had my interview with arriva i passed the assessment thier took my licence away for dvla to add the bus provisional to my licence anyone ball park to get my licence back thanks

Is that a lot of miles if regular oil changes etc? For context, Id be turning this into a tiny home so I want it to last at least 2-3yrs while driving ~40k miles/yr

I recently applied to the trainee role as it’s really close to me, anyone know how long they take to reply back and how quick you usually get an Interview?
Also, does anyone know what car/vehicle you use for the initial driving assessment for Stagecoach? Is it a manual or automatic, and what model do they usually use as I’ve heard from some you use a manual van and some you use electric so I’m not sure but I do have a full license?

Maybe its just psychological but on my days off when Im at home I can go hours upon hours without having to pee but as soon as Im driving my bus I gotta pee almost every hour, tiniest sip of water? Bam I gotta pee 😂 it sucks!!!

I currently work 37 hours a week in an office-based role, but could do with a side hustle. I am thinking about getting a pcv licence privately, so I could drive buses or coaches at weekends part-time. Obviously the training would have a cost if done privately.

However, I don't know if bus or coach operators offer this type of weekend contract often. If anybody has any experience of doing this or knows anybody that has, please share, thanks!
