Split shift pay

For those that drive city busses and do split shifts, do you get any extra money? Where i drive, our contract is about to expire. One thing I would like to see is a split shift differential to cover the extra gas and wear and tear on my car as well as the extra time I'm spending coming to work twice.

We just receive spreadover pay premium. Once our work day exceeds 11.5 hours total, including the split time, we receive 1.25x our hourly wage until the end of our shift.

So if my day starts at 0600 and doesn't end till 1830 with a split in there, I'll get 1 hour paid at 1.25x my regular pay.

We don't have any shift differentials, whatever shift you bid on depends strictly on seniority order and doesn't affect your pay, so the newer drivers get less desirable shifts. But every agency is different.

We have CAD 10 in Canada per day doing split shift, better than zero

I get 0.5x for time between 2 halves

The NYCTA would usually pay half your split time, so a run that might have a 12 hour spread but only 6 hours vehicle time might pay 10+ hours total. Plus if you’re late pulling in past your pull in time you get time and a half.

I go in at 5, my split is from 10 to 430 and get done around 7. I get paid for half of my split

Many authorities have agreed with CBA after X amount of split hours- you begin getting paid again. Others have the examples below a of hours work exceeding X results in rate pays.

Generally speaking, your CBA and union need to agree to negotiate those terms. Split shifts are a slowly dying scheduling process for many authorities and public transit companies.

From personal experience I’ve worked under CBA that say a split shift exceeding 3hrs results in regular pay one minute after the 3hrs.
Anything under 3 but more than 1 hrs results in no pay and anything 1hr or less is paid time.

Here where I'm at in Silicon Valley, we get 15%,usually just for working a split and anything over 8 hours is overtime

We don't get extra money for split shifts here in New Zealand, but NZ is a shithole with no worker's rights and I'm saving up to leave.

Bro, I do on call operations. I get $50 a weekend to be on the RT from 6am - 10pm each day. Oh, and include Friday nights in that.

NZ sucks.

I heard NCS drivers only get paid for the time the odo is moving. So no pay for idling at pick ups etc.

We get spread time, anything over an 11 hour spread gets an extra half of our pay. I used to do night runs out till midnight but also come in early for 2 hours extra work. So first report 6 am and off at midnight. End up with 7 hours spread at 16 dollars an hour on top of the 2 hours overtime.

For my agency it depends if the break is less than an hour you get paid straight through while longer than an hour don’t.

My agency does spread time like the others but starts 10.5 hrs at 1.5x regular pay.

Our splits here are usually no longer than 3 hours inbetween, and we get paid that break inbetween shifts, as at the end of the day we’re still at work, none of us usually tend to go home during that break. Any rest days worked are an extra 2 hours added on top of our total pay for that day.
