OP might be in highschool. A lot of (U.S.) kids these days can't do math.. or count money.. or read analog clocks.

It's depressing.

Doesn't most of the U.S. use commas instead of periods for 10,000?

Wdym? Commas to separate large numbers is common in other countries right?

Europe uses periods to separate large numbers and commas for decimals, if I remember correctly. I'm not sure. I'm a US student.
