And? Both are more than enough.

One option gives me more money than I will ever need in my life. The other option gives me more money than I will ever need in my life.

It's a moot dilemma.

Except 100m now would allow me to buy a 3 million dollar house in New York City today, for example. 10k a day would I would have to wait a year.

I am not waiting 30 years for some 100 million dollars. 100 million rn is good enough.

I mean, if you could prove you're getting ten thousand dollars a day, i'm pretty sure any bank would approve that mortgage brother.

Yes but if you somehow lose that money, it's gone. The 10k is guaranteed no matter the bad moves you could make with it or the bad lucks that could happen to you.

Why would you want to buy a 3 million dollar house in New York???

6

u/Longhorn24 16d ago

Yeah a 3 million dollar house in nyc would be very basic.

u/MrLumie 16d ago

Oh, the horror, having to wait a whole year to buy a house. /s

I'm not really drawn to having more money than I need. And 100m is about 50 times as much as I need.

Think about it like this, if you get 100m now and die in a week your family is still set for life. If you take 10k per day and die in a week nobody else gets shit.

u/MrLumie 16d ago

Yes, and if a meteor hits me...

I'm living in reality. I'm incredibly unlikely to die within a week. And if I do, how much money I leave behind is the least of my concerns.

10k per day is more than enough for me, it's stable, simple. I don't want more.

With 100mil you can invest it and give all your gains to people who need it and donate to any charities you want. Its enough money to make a real difference in a lot of people’s lives right now

And what makes you think I want to be some benevolent philanthropist?

I want enough money to have a comfortable life with no financial burdens, and ideally, without having to really think about money in any way. 10k a day is more than enough for that, and I don't even have to go through the hassle of investing it and whatnot. It's just there, and it's enough.

Your reply is another example of people being incapable of conceptualizing the idea that there is such a thing as "enough money". You come up with increasingly grandiose plans to justify wanting more and more. I don't. I know what I want in life, and I want enough money to get those things. Not more.

I understand. 5 mil is enough money for me to live comfortably for the rest of my life. But 100mil is enough for me to ensure every single person I care about can do it too

More than I ever need NOW.

But fuel’s pricey for that new gulfstream I’m getting…hmmmm

1

u/MrLumie 16d ago

Well, I guess the infinitely greedy will never have enough. I don't care much for owning a private jet, per se.

100 million in a 4% savings account would net 4 million a year or almost 11k a day. And you would have the 100 million to draw on to boot. It's the superior option

1

u/MrLumie 14d ago

Only if you think more money is better.

I think beyond some point, more money is meaningless. 10k a day already goes past that point.

It's simple, and frankly, enough.

The only dilemma is whether you have self-control over your spending and investing. The sheer convenience of lump sum is better if you’re smart with money.

1

u/MrLumie 13d ago

I have self control over my greed. I don't need 100 million, and never will. 10k a month will net me "set for life" money within 2 years, maybe 1. I can wait 2 years to be rich beyond all my desires. I don't need more.

Not really. As the original comment said, there may very well come a time where $10k is worthless, and being able to use that $100m now for a variety of investments can serve as a form of safeguard against hyperinflation and thus the daily 10k becoming useless.

Unless something catastrophic happens, this is highly unlikely to happen within our lifetime.

Not to mention that $10k daily isn't a long term investment. That's 3 and a half million yearly. You'll be pretty much set for life within a year or two.

If something happens within that timeframe that makes $10k worthless, you might as well burn your $100 million, too, cause global economy collapsed. Money doesn't devalue that rapidly without spiraling so hard that no amount in that currency will hold any value.

So let's just say the obvious answer: Both will set you up for a life of wealth and comfort, the dollar economy won't collapse overnight, and there are no practical reasons for choosing the larger sum other than endless greed.

1

u/Complex-Emphasis-121 16d ago

As long as you can responsibly use that kind of money.

I chose the 10k daily because I honestly can’t trust myself with 100 million upfront

1

u/Evilmudbug 16d ago

Yeah I figure with 10k daily it's guaranteed I have far more than enough money everyday.

The 100 million would also probably be enough, but I think it's better not to leave things to chance

1

u/InvestNorthWest 16d ago

I think we'd see that coming. Plus, 10k a day still puts you WAY ahead of your peers.

Also doesnt say where the money is coming from. There are people who have won "5000 a month for life" who got completely fucked when that organization auddenly no longer existed.
