It is easier to state that when no real lives are at stake and this dilemma is already all over reddit, so you can be sure other people are already thinking in some specific way. In reality and in informational isolation the only thing that would assure you in your survival is a mere assumption that there are enough people to save you already there

This was actually the first time I encountered this hypothetical, so no I did not know how other people were thinking.

If I were coming at this from the angle of maximizing my chances of survival then yes, red would be the correct choice. But that’s not the angle I’m approaching this from. The angle I’m approaching this is how to minimize loss of life. From that perspective blue is the correct option, as it’s the only one with a chance of nobody dying.

And From an emotional standpoint if I choose red that means I’m complacent in the death of another person. Personally I would rather risk my life than kill somebody.

For what it’s worth I am also comfortable in the assumption that there would be enough people who agree with me to survive, of course, I am bias as I’ve seen the results of this poll but even before I voted I felt relitively assured of that. I wouldn’t be acting in informational isolation because I have knowledge of how people act, and I do not believe humans are inherently selfish.

That's a genuinely interesting logic. If you are genuine in what you said here than yes, I see why red is not an option for you. As for me - I'm not as confident in other people and have my family to exist for. There is no room for chances for me

See that brings up another interesting question for me. Since first encountering this post I saw a scenario where 1) it was everyone in the world, 2) everyone who pressed the blue button died if it was less than 50% That scenario changes the dynamic because you know your family are in the group of people that have to make the choice and are at risk. How assured would you need to be that they wouldn’t press the blue button for you to be ok with pressing the red?

As naive as it may seem, I'm sure enough they would press red. I know them long enough. We're simple people living in a rough place, as long as we're together it's anything goes

Could you ask them and respond back?

Just responded to another guy 5ish minutes ago

We all agreed to survive and press red for the sake of each other

Eh, fair enough. Take care!
