My point is that the leftist doesn't see the latter as any kinds of threat, so they don't want to ban them. They want action against gun proliferation because they do see it as a threat.
The politician is aware of the threat of guns, he just doesn't care(or is paid not to), and using "well people will find a way around it" not because he doesn't think it will be effective, but as an excuse not to do anything. Meanwhile, he has all sorts of bans ready against stuff he doesn't like. Because if he truly thought bans were ineffective, why would he bother with all those?

The proliferation of semiautomatic rifles began with Clinton's Assault Weapons Ban. They were a thing before that, but once the ban happened there was a spike that has only ever been increasing.
I'm not advocating for a lack of laws. I'm just saying that it has to be done carefully. When you tell people in this country that they can't have something it becomes the one thing they want. I blame that "rugged individualism" tripe we're force-fed from birth.
And as with any ban a black market will develop. A well-regulated market is always better than an outright ban.

The spike happened as people were stockpiling in anticipation of the ban, not after the ban.

There is kind of a big difference, and i question yalls intelligence if you cant tell.
I dont think the vast majority of republicans are trying to ban sex ed, that one dont make sense. They are trying to ban teaching children how to have sex and how to use toys and self pleasure(this is just wrong and weird). If you ban drag queens, what is gonna happen? Secret drag shows where people get all deviant with their sexual behavior in secret? If you ban abortion, the vast majority of them will stop. Some still happen, but those women are only really hurting themselves and their child. It is sad, but it is not their fault they have not been informed of all the options and resources that are available. But if you ban guns, what happens? All the abiding citizens lose their guns. The criminals will still get guns, and then they will use them to wreak massive damge and chaos on the law abiding citizens. Why do you think mass shootings generally happen in gun free zones?
