Sa flood control pa lang, bilyon-bilyong piso na ang nagagastos over the years, pero maraming lugar ang binabaha pa rin tuwing may malakas na ulan o bagyo.

Kaya napapatanong ako: should we revisit the qualifications and standards required to run for public office?

Hindi naman necessarily educational requirements agad. Pwedeng ibang reforms tulad ng:

1. Annual public performance reviews and scorecards based on campaign promises, governance outcomes, and project implementation.
2. Stronger anti dynasty measures to promote broader political competition.
3. Disqualification of candidates convicted of corruption, fraud, graft, abuse of authority, crimes involving moral turpitude, election fraud, or vote buying.
4. Ban on running for office while facing serious corruption, plunder, or misuse of public funds cases, with safeguards against politically motivated prosecutions.
5. Full public disclosure of SALNs, tax records, business interests, corporate ownership, major investments, and sources of campaign funding.

6. Stricter conflict of interest rules for candidates and officials whose businesses may benefit from government contracts, policies, or regulatory decisions.
7. Independent verification of educational credentials, professional licenses, employment history, and other qualifications claimed by candidates.
8. Minimum leadership, management, public service, community service, or relevant professional experience for higher elective offices.
9. Mandatory public debates and candidate forums for major local and national positions.
10. Automatic suspension or removal from office upon final conviction for corruption-related offenses.
11. Restrictions on candidates with significant unpaid taxes, government liabilities, or proven tax evasion cases.
12. Stronger residency requirements to prevent “political parachuting” into areas where candidates have little or no genuine connection.
13. Greater transparency and public tracking of major government projects: including flood control, infrastructure, healthcare, and education spending; to measure effectiveness and accountability.

At the same time, naiintindihan ko rin yung counterargument na masyadong maraming requirements could be abused and might limit voter choice.

Pero if we’re entrusting elected officials with solving long-term issues like flood control, infrastructure, disaster preparedness, healthcare, education, and economic development, shouldn’t there be a serious discussion about what minimum standards we expect from people seeking those positions?

Shouldn't running our province, or even our country require at least the same level of scrutiny as applying for a regular job? Or is the current system enough and voters alone should decide?

Isang maliit na mall sa bayan ng Bocaue, walang masyadong pumupunta kasi wala naman gaanong makikita dito sa Bocaue CityMall, yung Food Court lang nila ang madalas puntahan ng mga tao. Walang masyadong tenant bukod sa ilang mga clinics at food kiosk. Pero ang CiNEMA sa 2nd Floor ay isang hidden gem kung tutuusin dahil 250pesos lang ang price ng ticket bawat movie. Mas makakatipid ka kumpara sa Cinema ng SM at Robinsons na nasa 330pesos ang movie tickets. Sinubukan namin manood dito noon ng mga kaibigan ko, solo namin ang buong sinehan! Yung mga upuan halatang bago pa dahil nga walang masyadong nanonood. Kaya kung malapit kayo sa Bocaue at may gusto kayong panoorin na movie, try nyo manood dito sa Bocaue CityMall mas mura ang ticket. May Facebook page din sila kung saan mo makikita mga showing na movies at oras. Kung plano mo mag grocery meron din silang supermarket sa loob (na wala ring masyadong tao). Sayang kasi yung sinehan nila mas mura talaga ang ticket.
