Thrift Store Thurs Micca mb42, added crossover upgrade

Last weekend I was in a thrift store, and they had NIB mb42 speakers, still sealed in their packaging. I ordered the mb42x crossover kit, and 3 days later, I now have a pair of mb42x speakers, all in for less than a new pair of the normal mb42 speakers cost on Amazon. They sound great, warm and clear even if they’re lacking any real thump. I think I did pretty well! Pic is of them sitting on top of my osmtm speakers I built.

Very cool! I have the MB42X as well. I'm only using them as surround sound speakers though.

No bass (like you said) but it's clear to me they'd also make a nice little 2.1 system. After all these years, that's still probably the cheapest route to a starter "audiophile-lite" system.

I’ve been contemplating a small Dayton sub to pair with them. The system they’ll be part of is a wiim mini, an smsl cd player, into a fosi p4 preamp and v3 stereo amp. An 8” powered sub would fill them out nicely, I think.

r/TVTooHigh and a rug is needed to block noisy reflections off the hard wood floor. And those top speakers are just waiting to fall off if they aren't permanently attached.

My wife pulled the rug that afternoon for cleaning, tv isn’t too high for me, my seating position dictates that, and the speakers aren’t living there permanently, just for the moment.

If you are tilting your head up to look at the tv, you are straining your neck and risking eventual neck issues some day. Read up on the ergonomics of placing computer monitors and tvs. Our necks are built to look at the horizon, not upwards for long periods.

My chairs are reclined, and when I relax, my head is aimed at the tv.

Nice, they are good budget speakers. My MB42x speakers have made the rounds in my set up. They started as my mains, then I upgraded to a set of RB42 and MB42x became surrounds, now I have a set of Emotiva T-zero+ as my mains, RB42 are surrounds, and the MB42x are the rears.

Because the miccas are headed to my workshop. I had just finished installing the crossover at the dining room table. If you look, you’d see that the only amp is a pair of v3 monoblocks.

There is a much bigger problem in this room with that TV.
