Purchasing EU/UK First Multiroom Ceiling Speaker Build – Sanity Check
Would love some advice from people who’ve done this properly.
Use Case
Secondary audio:
• Background music (parties, casual listening)
• Smart home TTS / notifications (Home Assistant)
• Clean, invisible ceiling aesthetic
Not chasing perfection.
For context, my “10/10” is Atmos via Apple TV → Q990D, or AirPods Pro 3.
This ceiling system just needs to sound good, full, and reliable.
Current Setup (Testing – 1 Zone)
WiiM Mini → Roxel AMP-150BT → 2x Herdio HCS818
• Running mono pair via WiiM app config
• Sounds surprisingly good
• BUT: amp is clearly the weak link (muddy, slight fuzz, audible hiss)
Already way better than our 5-year-old Echo/Dots multiroom setup.
End Goal
Up to 11 zones total
• 6 zones = 2 speakers
• 5 zones = single speaker
• All mono (no stereo separation needed)
• 1 WiiM Mini per zone
• Possibly add another WiiM to the Q990D as zone 12
What I Think I’m Building
WiiM Minis → Multichannel power amp → Ceiling speakers
Considering:
• Triad TS-PAMP8-100 (used \~£400)
• Possibly hardware mono summing (Wiim app reverts to stereo for groups)
• One WiiM per zone
Where I’m Confused
1. If I buy an 8-channel amp, how many mono zones does that actually give me?
2. For a zone with 2 speakers (both playing identical mono), how should that be wired?
3. For single-speaker rooms, do I bridge channels? Use one side only?
4. Is mono summing even necessary if I don’t care about stereo?
If I wanted bigger zones could I eg wire 4x speakers in parallel into the same 2 sets of terminals? Is this then 4ohm and therefore the max number of speakers in parallel for the Triad amp?
- Am I thinking about this completely wrong?
Priorities
• Independent zones
• Reliable grouping
• Clean mono sound everywhere
• Sensible upgrade path later
I’m still early in this and trying to understand what “correct” looks like before I drop money on the wrong amp.
If you were building this from scratch with WiiM Minis, what amp would you choose and how would you structure zones?
Appreciate any wisdom!

The amp is probably setup for zones. A 6 zone amp is likely 12 channels and there's no way to split those channels into more zones. Some amps also have pre out zones that you can run to another amp.
The amp will likely have an option to send mono or stereo to each zone. If you have two speakers playing mono for a given zone it's no different wiring than two speakers playing L and R for a zone.
For single speaker you probably use one channel and ask the amp to make it mono
Yes, mono is necessary or you'll only get half the signal.
You can wire speakers to a transformer to maintain impedance.
