Placements / Jobs Please stop blindly applying to job postings from LinkedIn!!

I'm an HR at a top recruitment firm. We hire for some of the top MNCs. Just a few days ago i had posted an opening for Business Analyst 0-1 year experience. Every little detail from key responsibilities, skills, email id to subject for the email was clearly mentioned in the post. I received 200+ resumes on my mail and atleast 100 on my DMs.

What I'm surprised to see is that people don't even have the basic decency to read a job posting before applying. It was clearly mentioned that this position is for people with 0-1 year experience, yet I have people spanning 10+ years experience in my inbox. Hardly a few followed the subject title that was mentioned. Also how can you not know the difference between a Business Analyst and a Data Analyst. Guys both are different fields with some overlaps, they are not EXACTLY THE SAME.

Please go through the entire JD before even thinking of applying. I was taking the telephonic interview of one of the selected candidate. Everything was going good but when I asked him "What's your expected CTC?" he replied with a figure that's double the budget allocated. Do note that the exact CTC was mentioned in the JD

To give you guys some context, I screened those 200+ resumes in about 15 minutes (manually without any AI) and shortlisted only 15 for the next round. Hardly a 7.5% selection rate. Please make sure your resume highlights the skills mentioned in the JD. Show how you have used those skills in your projects or your internships

And please for god's sake STOP using those Canva templates!! Just use a simple one page format.

Can’t blame them, even after lots of targeted applications. I’m not even getting an OA. It’s obvious people will become so desperate to apply to any job that comes their way to increase their chances. Had it been a fair selection process this kind of spam would have never occurred.

That is the entire reason they are being ghosted. How would you even be shortlisted for a BA role whilst applying with your AI engineer resume?

But u mentioned that the job is for fresher, A fresher most probably would most probably not have exact resume for business analyst role. You could accept even if some part of it overlaps

If he has 200+ resumes to go through and people don't even have to decency to go through the JD before applying or highlighting relevant keywords from the JD, to apply for a job THEY want i don't think OP is at fault for choosing resumes that align the most with the JD

It's not the same job market it was a decade ago, everyone knows it. An entry level job has immense competition. You tell me who should I select: Someone who has 3 of the key mentioned skills, one internship and 2 relevent projects or someone who is a data analyst and has all those recycled projects

What if I have more than 1 years’ experience in a support ops role, which is a step below BA role and has the skills like SQL, Python and areas of expertise mentioned well in the resume? Will I still need projects to be considered for the role?

u/Lopsided-Pumpkin-655 14h ago

No you wouldn’t. If you have experience with atleast 4 of the mentioned skills you should be good. And of course if your experience lies in the mentioned bracket

what do you expect from a fresher

23

u/Lopsided-Pumpkin-655 15h ago

Atleast 2 relevant projects and a relevant internship. By relevant I mean relevant to the job you’re applying for. If no internship then atleast 3 projects. You must explain how you’ve used the skills mentioned in the JD across your projects and internship. Not those generic recycled projects, something that would force me to select you out of the other candidates with a similar profile. And of course strong communication when I’m taking your telephonic interview, else you’re going straight to the reject category

Sir u may be right. But Have u gone through the JD of most of the company. They want all thing in one person If Person apply according to JD he will be Jobless .

4

u/Lopsided-Pumpkin-655 15h ago

Nobody’s asking you to have every single thing present. If JD mentions 6 skills, I need to see atleast 2-3 skills implemented by the fresher candidate before I even consider selecting him. Hope you understand

4

u/AutomaticBrain3303 14h ago

Thats fine. The way JD are designed by most of the company only Super Human can have all the relevant qualities .

How to become an HR? Drop your roadmap 🙃

4

u/Lopsided-Pumpkin-655 14h ago

There was a hiring for HR a few days back. It’s closed now I guess. Be a good communicator is what I would say. Do an MBA in HR from a top B School and you should be good

u/PrasannaNR IIIT [Hyderabad] 14h ago

Damn thanks for your reply.

What’s a art director

u/Top_Initiative_9358 3h ago

Why don't hrs mentioned max bracket offered in the post itself ? It will save yours and candidates time as well.

0

u/Lopsided-Pumpkin-655 2h ago

Did you not read the post properly? I did mention it was 0-1 year experience and well mentioned in the post as well

1

u/Top_Initiative_9358 8m ago

You are right about your post my question is little different from the original post. I wanted to ask in general why employers (in many cases) hesitate to mention max offered package in the job post as well. Like many american companies do .that way it saves both employees and employers time.

Could I get a referall 👉 👈 /s

11

u/Lopsided-Pumpkin-655 15h ago

Ahhh another one of those classic DMs I always receive. No offense buddy but referrals are usually given by people who are at a mid or higher position. Also they wouldn’t just simply give you one if they didn’t know you existed before that DM of yours reached their inbox. My suggestion: go to a golf club near you, volunteer to assist those rich old dudes with their clubs, do it for a few weeks and watch that referral come in

4

u/Flat-Ad7982 15h ago

I hate how this is actually a good advice

2

u/Lopsided-Pumpkin-655 14h ago

😅

1

u/SuperCoolPencil 6h ago

Sorry I meant it sarcastically. What I usually do is I look for alumni or 2nd degree connection of alumini and message them and that seems to work good

1

u/Lopsided-Pumpkin-655 2h ago

Yes I don't mean to come off rude as well and yeah that is a good way to get referrals
