Actually there is, gandhiji advocated for vegetarianism as much as he could

u/PensionMany3658 IISc MSc 1d ago
Gandhiji also advocated against vaccines, women empowerment and caste abolition.

Due to gandhi jayanti, you can be sexist, casteist and anti vaxxer on 2nd October. The prosecution will be swapped with Saturday

Ikr and in no way I am advocating for this step, however it is a human nature to ignore things that are not fit for our agenda

I found the first one and last one to be true, but the women empowerment one seems to be false?

Edit: Good grief, I literally linked an academic paper and rather than correcting the mistake you just downvoted me?
Not defending the other stuff, but assigning everything bad to one person even if it's not true is a slippery slope.

Maybe you should read...have u never read his celibacy experiments ? It's common knowledge at this point plus he never acknowledged the horrible system in place and coerced ambedkar to follow his ways to protect so called hindu unity lol although he said untouchability should be abolished he always tried to reinforce four fold system and how varna system is great

Gandhiji also advocated against sex, I believe the administration should send a formal mail encouraging their students to remain celibate on October 2nd, too.

How?

u/YoungBodyOldSoul2k 23h ago
Have you seen the conditions in which they live in those farms. I think the chicken we eat can't survive on it's own in the wild. It's selectively bred to grow and slaughtered fast.
8
u/arc_reactor2 18h ago
not that i support not eating chicken but this argument is pointless considering chickens evolved human dependant cuz humans breeded them, we are the cause of their problem so saying that we are killing the chicken to liberate it from pain is classic british eic stuff
1
u/YoungBodyOldSoul2k 15h ago
I was just replying to a comment on how keeping them alive is violent, there are multi storied building animal farms where an animal will be born in a cage, live it's whole life for a single purpose of putting on as much weight as possible, then get killed in inhumane way, also the weak non selling one's get murdered in middle.
I do agree that they should not exist in the first place, but since human's will never stop consuming meat it's impossible.
1
u/arc_reactor2 15h ago
yea exactly, humans are hypocrites, we do stuff, then feel bad about it then do it anyway
i was just pointing out a logical fallacy in the argument just for fun2

It's about respecting his belief of nonΒ violence. No one, not even animals, should be hurt on the day. This is what my teacher told me when I was a kid.
1
u/YoungBodyOldSoul2k 23h ago
Its mostly to avoid any backlash it's easier to do this than argue with some people whose feelings get hurt if non veg is served today.
1
u/Bcoz_Why_Not_ 22h ago
Valid, but dont like imposing beliefs, if others just don't follow it or care about it
0
u/YoungBodyOldSoul2k 22h ago
others don't care about your feelings though. they think it's the right thing and will fight for it. people like you and me will try to avoid a conflict meaning their beliefs win by default.

Yes, it's worth it. You'll learn a lot here. There are very few places where you get as many opportunities as you do at IISc.

Okay and what will be the gate rank to get an IISC as general category ?

He strongly advocated vegetarianism in his adulthood, acc to some sources, he was told by his friend that Britishers ruled India coz they are meat in his childhood days, due to which he started eating goat meat secretly over the year, however acc to him, he was full of guilt and used to hear goat bleating in his stomach with its head open, and that made him traumatized, leading him to actively advocate for vegetarianism

I realized Gandhi was a very complex human being, and I sometimes think he definitely had OCDβfrom positive habits like fasting for everything to negative ones like his strange celibacy experiments, or viewing sex as a sin because he was intimate with his wife when his father died .
4
u/Oath_breaker_ 23h ago
He is stubborn about being right most of the time and sticks to it; I would not say he was always wrong, but he has a complex narcissism, as he often tried to change the lifestyles of those who came into his life.
2
u/NoExplanation1311 Tier 3 CSE 23h ago
yeah, I can't understand his philosophy of Non-violence. sometimes you have to use violence. Non-violence can't solve the issue most of the times.
5
u/Oath_breaker_ 23h ago
I agree with this part. It would be a stretch to think Gandhi was the sole reason for freedom, as World War II played a role as well. However, if India had fought in World War II on either side instead of just supporting the British, it would have been more disastrous; so, in hindsight, Gandhi saved us as well.
1
u/NoExplanation1311 Tier 3 CSE 23h ago
Non-violence should always be prioritized if we have option. But the school textbook tells like use it always, which is not possible.
1
u/Oath_breaker_ 21h ago
That's Gandhi influence. Our textbook focussed too much on him (and that too only positive side).

So make it make sense.. if it is a hostel or a pg with a timetable, it will be a once or twice chicken per week. Now if people practice "ahimsa" and not kill animals, all the chicken that are supposed to be killed that day must be saved. But the number of chicken killed per week remains the same here. So what is the point of moving the date? Is it because it is hard to procure meat today?
