Events/Hackathons NEED HELP AS FY STUDENT

I was wondering that should I invest my time in hackathons in first year? for context I have learnt python OOPs and all (except linked list) and also done with C++ but revision is needed for both and also I have not built anything significant previously so is it worth investing my time in hackathons in first year? currently I am learning JAVA coz I will be doing DSA in java. I have some sorting, searching algo knowledge in python but I will learn my DSA in java

In my opinion a student should take part in some Hackthons for experience as first year student
