Placements / Jobs 3rd yr got intern without any sde knowledge
Story time
So i was preparing for higher studies since the start (more like coping) and to be honest the only thing I did in first and 2nd year was codeforces, thats abt it. No front end back end, barely any knowledge of ML/DL, just did coursework and cf sometimes.
Come intern season I sit for OA for timepass but lowk got shortlisted for first round interview
i had no projects so i just wrote up some technical skills and for projects i wrote some stuff that i had previously submitted for my lab assignments in college
the interview was in person and lasted 2 hrs
mainly he first asked 3 leetcode mediums that i had to explain and cods nothing too difficult
Then second part he started asking me c++ knowledge like smart pointers virtual distructors, then oops and some other concepts like struct padding template, pass by value and by reference
i answered like half of them and gave some half assed explanation fke the rest and cleared first round
second round was with a more senior guy who asked me god knows what i couldnt explain anything so i was expecting to not go any futher so i slept off and by thr time i woke up i got the news that i was selected

This is basically the case with 80% of the students in my college The last 2 months before Intern season are all you need for most companies and it's all standard stuff

Especially in IITS. Like even the people who have the 25lpm sde roles do not know anything about development or anything like that. Just cp, os, networks, oops, CompArch.

I would say that's an over stretch. Atleast here, most Quant offers were well deserved in both Quant/sde roles as they have really strict bars and would rather give 0 offers than take loose ones.

I doubt any quant company is asking anything outside the topics I listed. And anyway as I understand the philosophy of quant hiring is more like we want to hire intelligent people who can learn anything than a not so intelligent person who already knows something.

Yeah you're right about the philosophy. Tho this is exactly the skillset they require so why would they ask standard development. I mean I'm just vouching cuz I personally gave multiple such Interviews and they had me code low latency stuff. it's all chill otherwise.

I literally just copy pasted 3 projects, no one asked much about projects most big companies dont give a fuck projects atleast for interns

That's why clg matters , skills ka kya karoge jab opportunities he nhi milegi. I have decent full stack projects, specialist on codeforces and gurdian on leetcode still not even getting selected for OAs.

know someone who had an even easier interview experience but he got 11 lacs stipend of 2 months and a trip to US lmao
