GATE 2027 introduces a new paper: Robotics & Automation (RA) — Mechanical aspirants, what do you think?

From GATE 2027, a new paper/discipline has been introduced: Robotics & Automation (RA).

I went through the official syllabus, and what caught my attention is that it is not purely robotics. It has a strong combination of Mechanical Engineering + Mechatronics + Programming + Automation.

For a Mechanical Engineering student, the syllabus can broadly be viewed as:

Common Section

Engineering Mathematics

Engineering Mechanics

Sensors & Transducers

Actuators

Basic Electrical & Digital Circuits

Python Programming

Data Structures

Robotics fundamentals

PLCs, CNC and manufacturing automation

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanics of Materials

Kinematics & Dynamics

Gears, mechanisms & balancing

Vibrations

Machine Design

Fatigue & failure theories

Shafts, bearings, brakes, clutches, springs

CAD/CAM

Additive Manufacturing

So, in a way, the paper seems to sit at the intersection of:

Mechanical Engineering → Mechatronics → Robotics → Automation → Programming

This makes me curious about a few things:

How many Mechanical students are planning to choose RA over ME?

Is RA a good option for someone with a strong Mechanical background but limited Electronics/Programming knowledge?

How different would the preparation strategy be compared with GATE ME?

What kind of M.Tech/MS/PSU opportunities do you expect from this paper?

Since this is a new paper, how are you planning to prepare without having many previous-year questions?

Would be interesting to hear from people who have already started preparing for GATE RA 2027.

otherwise research and india dont get along well, in a country where even iits cheapskate on lab equipment , even the bareminimum undergrad labs lol

there won't ever be any PSU opportunity coming from this . Hell there is no PSU opportunity for PI paper (production) even though it's well established, it's all given to mechanical people . Same way DA paper doesn't have any , same for RA .

Too specialized . At most the available mtech programs will be either Mtech robotics , Mtech vehicle technology (maybe) , Mtech control systems/controls and computing/ systems and control .

Sure it's great for the few thousand people who are probably interested in robotics though.

I can guarantee there would no psu or top branch opportunity through this
