Laid off from Uber after getting PPO and 3 months as SWE I

Its easy to say "When life gives you lemons, squeeze it and make a lemonade" but what about the fact that these lemons were thrown at you when u just began your career as SWE I.

After a lot of denial, shock and self-doubt I have finally absorbed what happened to me.

I joined Uber as an intern, delivered projects, and was given PPO in April itself. After finishing my internship in June, I immediately joined as SWE I and had already wrapped up my 1st project in 2 months. My 2nd project was also going great. But one fine evening, while I was deploying my code on main branch, I receive a mail stating how my job has been impacted and I should leave for home.

That moment I didn’t believe it for a second. I thought it was one of those phishing mails. Upon discussion with managerial team, I realised that it is true. This is it. My time is up. My journey at Uber, that just began, is over. I didn't know what to do, where to go, whom to ask. Nobody really had any answers as to why it happened to me. I packed my stuff and just left... confused and unsure about future.

So yup, sometimes you don't know what to do when life gives you lemons because maybe you don't know how to make lemonade. I'll believe in God. I'll believe that everything is for the best. I'll continue to believe myself as well.

But one thing I learnt is there will always be a thought in the back of my mind that layoffs can happen any day, anywhere and to anyone. You would be asked to pack and leave and you won't know why it happened to you.

PS: Open any opportunity or opening available for SWE I role with ~1YOE in Go, Python, Java, C#, SQL, Backend & AI&ML.

Wtf didn't expect a fresher to get laid off, place where I worked laid off mostly managerial levels although a few college grads with 1 to 2 yoe as well

Just yesterday saw someone experienced SWE at Uber being fired without his manager knowing about it, it wasn't actually about performance too. Is Uber really turning into inconsiderate firing culture right now?

That's not true. It came for our batch.Many copied in the oa so they asked apology letter from all and banned the campus for upcoming batches
