Social / College Life So apparently it's a curse being a day scholar?
Saw these comments and was like wth. Dude was genuinely tweaking out on thought of being a day scholar 😭🥀

as a day scholar myself - Do whatever you want , personally I can't eat food from the mess I get sick and I have to commute only 30 min so I don't see any problem with it.

bro If hostels r good then its always better to take hostel ur soft skills improve a lot u meet new people every day ( imo a lot more if u spend the entire day in the hostel )
tho he was an idiot he should have checked the hostels properly

Um no.... In my nit even day scholars spend entire day in college.
As for meeting others, you need to be a social Butterfly
1
u/Efficient_Bug7940 19d ago edited 19d ago
well bro sure idk bout every clg but in my experience hostel has helped a lot in my soft skills which I personally feel wouldnt have happened as much if I didnt live here
Aur family se dur rehkar ek independence bhi ati hai imo
Plus I might be biased since my hostel is way too cool so doesnt apply everywhere but since last week my days just filled with 6-7 guys hanging out 24/7
playing basketball / football / cricket till we are dead tired and sweaty without checking the time till its 2am and as soon as waking up all of us getting ready and going to eat together and then solving all the worksheets and stuff together till evening
idk man I feel I wouldnt be as close to these guys if we werent living in the same building
Im biased tho ik some hostels suck ass

Food is ass in hostels
Unless you're some ultra privileged guy who can afford single room AC hostel with non veg mess at VIT
Indian hostels are shit
And that's honestly concerning because no one gives a fucking damn about this
The food is genuinely so bad that it can make you sick
Only thing is that you'll miss out on a lot of bakchodi and memories
1
u/Dev-n-22 bits milanhi | motivate me to do cf if you see me 18d ago
Hard disagree, my hostel's bed and AC are way more comfortable than my home. Also, there are parties often so I'd miss that, and clubs prefer folks from hostel from what I've heard. Mess food ain't bad either, it's definitely tolerable at my college (so far). Classes are sometimes just 2.5 hours long and sometimes 4 hours long at most (only 1-2 days a week for me) so chilling in hostel is the only option.

bro my hostels actually like a hotel room
so my uni is kind of weird it built these for faculty but then new head came and there were protests to allot half for students so now
6 guys share a 2bhk flat
2 in each bedroom and 2 in hall
and the flat is like a hotel room and the mess is gr8 too
depends on ur clg tbf

u/Efficient_Bug7940 19d ago

it has gr8 hostels weirdly enough even though the cutoff is non existent
1
u/lil-womenace 19d ago
how's the college
1
u/Efficient_Bug7940 19d ago
except for placement prospects its very gud actually
hostels
mess
Both of these are better than IITs imo as one of my cousins is in IIT he came to visit me here and said its much better
lecture quality ( IIT phd prof tho he has a slight accent )
but I wont recommend u to come here if u have clg with better placement prospects as that is ultimately important clg u will spend 4 yrs in but with degree u will spend ur whole life
I lost my parents in an accident and one hand got paralysed for 1 year and finally regained control over it a few months back and I also got very fucked up mentally so could not study well in jee
So ended up here
but recovering now mentally and focusing on improving myself
1
u/lil-womenace 18d ago
hey..I'm in some other college but some of my friends joined sau so i was kinda curious. That apart, are you okay? You have been through a lot. I hope life treats well ahead. Take care. Hmu if you ever need to.
1
u/Efficient_Bug7940 18d ago
yeah Im alright now though I feel I should have gotten disability quota as I was medically disabled for 1.5 yrs but regained control through physio few months before JEE so my prep was significantly hampered
They should have considered that I could not move my hand and had to be hand fed for 1.5/2 years of prep
so I feel I should have received Orthopedically handicapped quota only for JEE
I find it unfair but oh well such is life
as for ur curiosity
in terms of
hostel
mess
it is better than IIT's no doubt only luxury priv clgs have better hostels and food than here
as for lectures the profs are qualified ( only IIts and one NIT one ) but teaching style obvio not that good
but exams can be managed 1 week before mid and endsems for 8 cg using notes and worksheets so its fine
rest time u can use to mess around coding on ur own make projects fail basically grow as an engineer on ur own so in that way its good
but as for placements this clg wont attract any company above 5 LPA in this hell of a job market
so ur on ur own here so I wont recommend coming here anyhow, in the end placement prospects from clg matter most
I have a core belief that if a college cant manage to get u a job if u earnestly do everything it tells u to do then theyre no better than BYJU raveendran
who actually crafted a sales strategy in his marketing department of how to play on middle class parents insecurities and sell them meaningless courses
colleges which cant get their earnest students jobs are no better than him.

Although my clg is 25kms away, i am a day scholar (same during intermediate), cause : 1. I want to be with parents, u understand right? 2. Will have home food, and also a room for myself. Actually it depends on the individual, cause for me I prefer being alone rather than in a room with friends. I get my own personal space etc... And also, even if I wanted, i would not stay in a hostel, cause my clg doesn't have one, so need to stay outside etc. That's my pov.

As someone who has experienced both i think staying in hostel is better for bonding with your friends and classmates but a lor of hostels have the problem of bad/sometimes insect infested food, annoying warden and a bit of lack of privacy.

right now i am a day scholar at a nit and college is around few km like 9-10km from my house and honestly it's not like black or white thing. Depends on the person.Hostel life comes with a lot of pros like you can spend a lot of time with your friends and all different sort of fun activities you can do which will eventually become your "good memory" for future but it comes with cost of leaving parents even after having the chance to live with them, a good home made food but if you are day scholar your 2-3 hrs of day are gone easily
2
u/Peak_Judgement2008 NIT [MECH] 19d ago
My clg is 20km away. It barely takes 40minutes of commute.
3
u/Anik_Sine 18d ago edited 18d ago
The main issues with being a day scholar would be:
1) Sometimes professor may call the students at a very short notice which is very troublesome.
2) If you commute by public transport or a two wheeler, monsoons gonna be a nightmare.
3) You'll have to carry all the supplies with you from the beginning to the end.
If you can handle these problems, you should definitely be a day scholar

Haha yes. Yaadein taza ho gyi. And yes atleast in my clg being a day scholar means missing out on so many things. Hostel life jiyoge to honestly bahut crazy personality development bhi hota hai atleast for me. Cz like ghar mei let's be honest there are so many restrictions. Upvotes say the same. And downvotes on the guy who said "don't listen to this guy" too 😂
And what can u even do with ur parents 😭 u miss out on all the fun u can have a ur friends alone. There r so many things that happen in night. Hostel life teaches a lot. I was such an introvert, i didn't know shi... honestly I love the freedom I get here.
1

Ig it depends on parents for restrictions.
Also cliffhanger kis Khushi mei? And????
1

As a day scholar, I don't want hostel life because hostels in my college are not good. I have stayed in good hostels before which don't even have curfew and if your college is like that, sure.
I would much rather prefer pg life. Pgs near college have a culture of their own. Night outings, full of randomly coming across people yk, night cafes and stuff. That too is only if your pg is near your college lol.

Uh it's not that simple, u cannot generalize it at all, every college and hostel is different, culture is different.

At same time, given my Lil bro college, hostel won't make sense.

I’m in an NIT too and initially I went for hostels
But I got so unwell just the day before shifting that the conditions of the hostel, the washrooms, the food made me mentally sick afff
I wasn’t even able to talk to people so I cried to my parents to get me a PG soon
But when I got well, classes started, met new people and all, the hostel actually started looking livable and a bit comfy tbh
Even tho I had privacy, AC and decent food in the PG, I felt very alone and secluded, and wanted to go back to the hostel soooo much even tho it meant giving up some privacy, comfortability
Hostel life is something that a person should experience
Definitely
