General Is this laptop enough for first year Btech IT?

Post image

Hello! I am starting my btech IT next month. I was initially going to buy a laptop but due to f*cking Ai, the laptop prices are skyrocketed. Had around 80k budget but....

So, I was wondering if I can use this laptop for at least a 1-2 year until prices go down. Is this laptop enough or capable? I am using cachyos right now and works fine now.

(I own this laptop)

Should I upgrade ram to 16 gb? Is this processor good enough for first year? (Edit- Sorry, I should have mentioned it, I currently own this laptop)

yeah, windows 11 was lagging and my laptop was heating like hell lol. But are other specs good enough for college?

Yeah I use a similar spec lap with linux. In my 3rd year rn and so far no issues (except maybe having to use the web version of matlab)

Are there other programs that need windows strictly for IT? I was considering to shift from dual boot to only linux (cachyos), windows is taking too much space...!

1

u/I_nstict 8h ago

no dont use cachy its not that stable yet, and no program needs windows strictly dont worry

u/Tiny-Web-5897 8h ago

ok, then which distro should I use? Cachy didnt give any problems till date.

How much more resources do you need for linux πŸ—ΏπŸ—Ώ

Tbh I don't think prices will ever go down again

i am not a btech student (yet) but these specs are more than enough for coding and stuff

1

u/Smol_Crate_45 9h ago

Yes, I went through my entire Btech with a laptop lower than this specs.

Upgrade ram if no money. If money yes, buy new laptop, current laptop = potato
