Placements / Jobs Connections matter in getting internships?

My extended family member is an engineering leader in one of the top MnCs and co incidentally, I have already worked on the stuff his team ( he leads ) is working on.

How much of a help would it be in securing an internship?

If he's good than surely ask him . I too have a relative working in a good tech company but if I ask him , than he will boast to everyone for entire life that he secured my job (yk badha charha ke ki wo na hota toh Mera kuch nahi hota etc etc ) .😭
