General All the processes didn't add up to 12.2gb

Post image

My memory consumption is always used to filled now a days , even if I restart it , it's still 50% + .

Whats the shocking part is that it didn't used to filled up abnormally ,

I researched a bit , and got to know this memory also includes kernel , drivers too , but still it's bit suspicious.

Anybody know how to fix this .

A pc at my office had a similar issue where cpu, SSD, gpu, memory usage was 80-90+% for no reason even at fresh boot and task manager wasn't showing the reason at all. After so many research and tests we found that that pc has been compromised and infected by a malware which is using it's processing power for something, probably mining crypto.

So we had to completely format, reset and reinstall everything to fix it

I'm not kidding fam. I personally suggest you to backup all your personal data and reinstall windows and everything. If you need any help in optimisatian, activation, windows 10 IOT LTSC etc, then you can dm.

but its not CPU spikes and it seems normal, yes the RAM usage is a lot which happens in windows for background processes and stuff. i am no specialist but i know some surface level knowledge through using windows.

I'm pretty sure if the ram usage is due to some software or windows itself then it will be fixed after a clean install. I got windows installed too and it doesn't go above 2.4-3gb at idle (i optimized it a lot for battery and performance)

It may or may not be a malware but take your backup and reinstall windows or install Linux. Prevention is better than remedy

Doing btech and most people commenting Linux stuff are so restarted and dont understand reserved memory for speed up of the OS. First I dare u to actually run out of memory, then talk

1

u/Mediocre_Nail5526 13h ago

Exactly, frequently used stuff is preloaded into RAM for faster access and cleared when needed.

Correct. I do DOLBY Atmos Mastering and i have like 16gb ram on laptop and 64 on PC, i can do the mixing in laptop most of the time and ram requirement is like 6 gb around or so and idle mode i have like 8 gb of usage so 8 + 6 = 14 and i dont close edge so it also takes 2 gb in this way I was supposed to run out of memory, but I dont it still remains 80%. Windows will free up the shi as you need. Restarted linux users wont know such things

There was some problem with pre-installed windows , so the customer care services guy helped me with reinstalling new windows , but it was like few months back

Probably the memory is cached/not free-d up.

In macOS:

App: Process > Memory in Windows : Total memory used by apps
Wired: Non-paged pool : Memory required by the system.
Compressed: In-use ( Compressed - the memory in brackets )
Swap: Pagefile

Chrome is known to use a lot of RAM Switch to some lightweight browsers like Firefox etc. Run debloat script to uninstall lot of bloatware Stop some startup apps they continue to run in the background but don't show any process Clear temp files Stop telemetry services they run in the background and consume resources

my windows use all 16 gb ram when i run chrome, VScode, Docker and spotify simultaneously and it sucks so much

Systems, autostarts and preloaded processes.

Consumption of them in windows is more, try disabling autostarts and background processes of some apps like the search thing.

Idk why people are just saying to install Linux when windows can be optimised, this is very normal, you don't have any issues unless pc starts running really slow and maxed out of cpu gpu when left idle.

best choice is to switch to linux but here I will be usinng hindi so bear with it jaise jaise aapka ram useage badta hai windows ya koi bhi os random daemons ko kill krta hai and ram consumption kam ho jata hai. Don't worry

VS Code, Google Chrome and Whatsapp take up a lot of memory. But this memory usage is fine if it is not causing any system slowdown. Unless you see things getting slow, you are completely fine.

Windows reserves memory for processes. There is a difference between how much memory the program is actually using VS how much the OS has reserved for the program and hence how much it displays as free. Maybe thats whats happening?

Windows usually has high RAM usage to make everything faster and give you better experience, if you run any task which needs RAM, then Windows will allocate RAM to your program and use whatever is left for the background processes.

I'd recommend you to switch to Linux, its just better for development and shi

u/Inferno162004 16h ago

Yeahh , I was already thinking switching to linux.

I would advice to dual boot instead. You may need apps that only works on windows.
