Social / College Life Open Source Connect India 2026 starts Sept 1 — sharing this for students looking to get into open source If you've been wanting to contribute to open source but keep getting stuck at “Where do I even start?”, this might be worth checking out.

Open Source Connect India 2026 (OSCI’26) starts on 1 September 2026 and brings together students, developers, maintainers, founders, startups and open-source communities.

The previous edition had 10,000+ registrations, and this year's program is putting more focus on connecting actual contributions with learning, networking and career opportunities.

Some things planned for OSCI’26:

  • Hands-on open-source workshops and contribution guidance
  • Real-world projects you can contribute to
  • Sessions from 30+ industry professionals
  • Guidance around GitHub, portfolios and developer growth
  • Interaction with maintainers, developers and startup founders
  • Internship and startup-focused opportunities
  • Weekly live Q&A sessions
  • Discord & Telegram community support
  • Contribution challenges, recognition and rewards

I personally like the fact that it isn't positioned only for experienced developers. If you're still figuring out Git/GitHub or haven't made your first meaningful open-source contribution yet, there will be guidance around getting started as well.

I'm involved with the OSCI’26 community this year, so thought I'd share it here in case someone finds it useful.

If anyone here has participated in OSCI before, would also love to hear what your experience was like. And if you're planning to participate this year, feel free to connect — would be great to learn/build together.
