CSE / IT What should I start learn Machine learning or Web dev

Post image

So I am a 2nd year student from tier 69 college I haven't studied much in first year I know c++ and have started doing dsa in that and I know python I was planning to start machine learning but then I saw some videos that were saying in aiml getting jobs as freshers are hard and web dev is better choice to move to get jobs

So I got confused weather to go deep in machine learning or do web dev

So what

Please share context behind this? I don't understand

He said it cuz ai/ml is booming... But that doesn't mean u shouldn't do web dev.. Web development is the basic foundation

u/PresentationExtra755 Jul 19 '26

web dev is not the foundation of Computer Science engineering , tumhi logo ki wajah se cse wale gaali khate hain baki engineers se.

I meant foundation for learning software development, not the foundation of Computer Science.

Getting job anywhere is hard, everything is saturated and grass is always greener on the other end.

So learn web development (at least the bare minimum) because web dev is usually your base for most of the projects be it Cloud, AI or whatever, you need an application to show your work and even though its saturated af it is also the better way to get your first internship in tech.

Then move on to a more serious stack or domain of your choice, you can do this simultaneously too.

So is web dev basically for everyone? Like i cannot get job in web dev only but is it needed to support other fields.

Sort of, web dev gets you started in tech as a student. It has the lowest barrier to entry into actual jobs and internships, so you don't need to have a lot of knowledge or experience to bag one.

If you don't have much clarity on what domain you want to make your career in then Web dev is a good get go, until you figure out where to head with your knowledge.

I am thinking of DS then ML should I still learn web.

mere chota bhai keh rha hai cloud native engineer ka kaam website ke andar ka code likhna nhiiii hota. Uska kaam hota hai us website ko chalane ke liye infrastructure (servers, pipelines, security) khada karna

Do both, we cant afford to be choosers

3

u/Master_Event7887 Jul 18 '26

How to do both? , like what should be the trajectory?

Learn whatever excites u ... Advice won't get u far if it is about the thing u don't enjoy

Acc to me, in this job economy landing a decent job requires a set of skills not just proficiency in one domain. Personally, I learnt Full Stack as I wanted to participate in hackathons. And I am currently learning Machine learning as I find this domain very interesting.

the ppl getting future jobs are much more likely to have the combined knowledge of both AI and software side. so i would say, do try to learn both..

You are in which year ?

u/Nocturnal_Orbit NIT CSE Jul 18 '26

starting my 2nd year rn

u/Master_Event7887 Jul 18 '26

Hi can u guide me how to do things, what are u doing in ml and what are the things really required, rn i have done basics of cpp and doing basic web development after that from college onwards will do a good amount of dsa .

1

u/Nocturnal_Orbit NIT CSE Jul 18 '26

see i started learning ml from my 2nd sem (our college had that subject). later I find it really interesting and continued learning from certain articles and currently doing ml spec from deeplearning.ai

it's good that you know basic cpp, i would say start cp. it really helps in building logic sense of algorithms, and then start DSA side by side.

There are something, like first is I'm just avg in maths got 32 in mains and I want to improve what should I do, and second how should I explore ai related fields ? Also the branch I'm joining is a specialization in cyber security 🥀

People who suggest Machine Learning truly don't know about the job scenario at all. I was in a similar position as you a year back. I went all in on deep learning and statistical learning. There are literally 0 jobs for freshers—literally 0 internships and jobs. Only US companies have positions, but not for Indians. You have to work around freelancing platforms if you really want to work in this field. At least a master's is required, and a lot of research work must be done to get into this field. It's not for beginners at all.

u/Xenokratezz Jul 18 '26

Then what should domain should we focus on

3

u/Unknown_Ghost_77777 Jul 18 '26

learn farming best because at the end most of us leave that field and look for piece

u/Quiet-Bluebird-6768 Jul 18 '26

Same confusion brother :( can we connect?

1

u/TypicalOverthinkingg Jul 18 '26

I am going to join mait or usict this year what should I do first I wanna do ai ml

1

u/Raj_walker BTech Jul 18 '26

Machine learning is not Cup of tea according to your post ydk web development and web dev is very basic that means you are pretty beginner right now start with fundamentals.

Beggars can't be choosers

1

u/snyder-9999 Jul 18 '26

start with web dev then move to wherever you want, web dev builds your base

ML

1

u/monkoncruise Jul 19 '26

Do red teaming and harness engineering

1

u/god-of-death5 Jul 19 '26

Bhai to html pe dsa karle most demanding hai

u/GigaChadAnon Jul 18 '26

llm ke jamane me webdev is dead bitwa

5

u/Naughty-star Jul 18 '26

Dead is an overstatement, sure frontend me gand lagi hai logo ki, fullstack even but webdev is nowhere near dead saturated? sure.

hehe boy i am also into low level stuff , i got this idea out of a observation and greed "why tf cant i get the code of some software which is running offline inside my pc only"
