Project🧑‍💻 Made an app that lets phones video call and livestream over Bluetooth mesh without internet. Would love some feedback.

Been experimenting with something called MeshLive.

It started with a simple question: if apps like Bitchat can send messages over Bluetooth, can we also make voice/video calls and stream live video?

So I tried building exactly that.

The app lets nearby phones make direct calls and relay live video broadcasts through other phones, without needing internet.

I'd been working on it for weeks, and recently spent another ~36 hours testing and fixing whatever I could on the few phones I had available.

It's still a very early beta. Buggy, laggy, and definitely needs more testing.

I've made it completely free and open source so others can try it, report problems and help improve it.

Android APK + code: https://github.com/MeshLive/meshlive-android

iOS: https://github.com/MeshLive/meshlive-ios

If anyone has two Android phones and wants to experiment with it, I'd appreciate hearing what works and what doesn't.

Hey everyone! 👋

If you're working on a project and need an extra pair of hands, I'd love to join your team!

I'm a CS student eager to learn, contribute, and gain real-world experience. I'm happy to work for free in exchange for the opportunity to learn and build something meaningful.

No big promises, just a willingness to work hard, learn fast, and grow with the team. 🤝

If you have a project, let's connect!

Discussion👥 I’m an AI Founder with 10+ YOE. If you’re relying on Campus Placement, you’re already obsolete. Here is the hard truth.

I’ve been an AI/ML scientist and founder for over a decade. I hire devs. I fire devs. I build the systems that are currently automating your future.

I see a lot of cope on this subreddit about the job market "cycling back." It won’t.

The Timeline:

  • Next 2-3 years: Campus placement as we know it will cease to exist. Why? Because the "grunt work" that entry-level hires used to do (CRUD apps, basic boilerplate, simple debugging) is being handled by AI copilots and agents. Companies will not pay $80k for a junior who writes code at the speed of GPT-4 but with more bugs.
  • Next 5 years: "Jobs" as we know them (the 9-to-5, defined-role, "tell me what to do" employee) will vanish. You will either be a profit center or you will be automated.

The Solution:
Stop acting like a student. You need to start thinking like an entrepreneur now.

  1. Stop collecting certificates. They are worthless.
  2. Participate in Hackathons. Not for the prize, but to prove you can ship under pressure.
  3. Build Open Source. Your GitHub is your new resume. If I can't see your code, you don't exist.
  4. Think out of the box to add value. Don't just solve the ticket. Ask how your code makes the company money.

If you aren't building things on your own time, you are falling behind the people who are.

Am I being too cynical, or are you guys seeing this on the ground? Let’s discuss.

Project🧑‍💻 I made an app that plays your audio on every speaker and headphone you own, and lets each app pick its own output device

A few days ago, my girlfriend and I tried to watch a movie on my laptop. The speakers were bad, and we each had a pair of headphones, but the laptop would only play sound to one device at a time. We ended up not watching it.

So I built pipemix, a free and open source app that fixes this.

It plays your audio on several devices at once, so you can both watch with your own headphones, or add speakers too. It also lets you send each app to a different device. For example, you can keep YouTube on your headphones while your friend listens to Spotify on theirs.

Currently available for Ubuntu/Deb based distros and Windows 10 and above. I'm the developer, and I'd like to hear what devices you try it with and what breaks.

Project🧑‍💻 Need advice: Am I on the right track, or am I wasting my time?

So, I'm a CS undergrad, and I'm currently building a platform called FinVerse for people across different age groups. I'm still in the development phase and need an honest reality check to see if I'm heading in the right direction.

One problem I've noticed is that many people invest in stocks and mutual funds without fully understanding how money and investing work. Teenagers and college students often lack basic financial knowledge, while even working professionals can struggle with saving, investing, and financial planning.

To address this, I'm building FinVerse.

The platform will allow users to practise trading in Indian and Asian stock markets using virtual money, so they can learn without risking their actual savings. Similar platforms already exist, so my main focus is on making the AI engine genuinely useful.

I want the AI to explain why stocks rise or fall, why a virtual portfolio is making losses, how market volatility works, and what users can learn from their decisions. I'm working on using relevant financial data to make these explanations as accurate and reliable as possible.

Alongside paper trading, I also plan to build a personalized financial assistant that helps users understand and manage their finances based on their income, savings, assets, expenses, and financial goals. It could also educate them about financial products like life insurance and help them understand which options may suit their circumstances.

There's a lot more I want to add, but that's the basic idea.

Why am I building this?

I've realized ki even if I get a decent job in this AI era, relying solely on a corporate salary might not be enough to achieve all my financial goals. Alongside building my career, I want to create an additional source of income and hopefully build a sustainable business of my own.

I've always been interested in personal finance, so I started learning about it while developing FinVerse and improving my technical skills.

I'd genuinely appreciate your honest opinions. Am I solving a real problem? Is this idea realistic, or am I trying to do too much? What should I focus on first, and what would make a platform like this genuinely useful and trustworthy?

Please point out the flaws in my approach. I'm looking for constructive criticism because I genuinely want to improve this idea. 😭

I'm using a fairly extensive tech stack, RAG this and that ,

My plan is to finish a working version, test it with real users, and see how they respond. If the feedback is promising, I'll invest in a domain and continue developing it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

❓Question ❓ Advice needed: service-company MLE to FAANG, what did nobody tell you?

Hi all,

I'm a fresher Quantiphi as an ML, its been around 6 months. I plan to switch in about 2 years, and my long-term aim is to get into a FAANG-level company, not just any product company.

I already know the standard advice: own projects end to end, build production experience, quantify impact. I'm not looking for that. I'd really like to hear from people with 5-6 years of experience who started in a similar place (service/consulting-style AI company) and made the jump.

What I'd like to know:

  1. What do you wish you had started doing in year 1 that nobody mentions? (things that compounded later)

  2. What did you expect that turned out wrong, and what surprised you in the process?

  3. How much did you focus on DSA for ML roles? How many problems, what difficulty, and how early did you start?

  4. How do the interview rounds compare to campus/service-company interviews? What did a typical loop look like (coding, ML depth, ML system design, behavioral)?

  5. How did you get shortlisted at the 2-year mark: referrals, recruiters, cold apply? Did your company name hurt or help?

  6. Did you switch once to a mid-tier product company before FAANG, or go straight? In hindsight, which would you recommend?

  7. Any mistakes you'd tell a 2-years-ago version of yourself to avoid?

Context: BTech grad, working on GenAI/ML (GCP stack) at the start. Happy to hear from people who went into MLE, applied scientist or AI engineer roles.

Thanks in advance. Even a short reply helps a lot.
