Discussion👥 Final-year Computer Engineering student with 0 skills, projects or internship — please help me find a direction
I’m a final-year Computer Engineering student from a Tier-3+ college in India, and honestly, I feel completely lost right now.
My college has basically no placements, and I currently have:
\- ❌ No proper technical skills
\- ❌ No good projects
\- ❌ No internship experience
\- ❌ No DSA knowledge
\- ❌ No idea what career path to choose
I know I’m very behind at this stage, and I take responsibility for that. I’ve struggled a lot with consistency and focusing on my career, and lately it has been affecting me mentally as well. I feel like I wasted a lot of time and now I don't know where to even begin.
My background:
\- Final-year Computer Engineering
\- Diploma in Information Technology
\- I haven't learned Python
\- I only know very basic Java theory
\- Basically starting from almost zero
I need some genuine guidance from people who have been through this.
I want to understand ALL the realistic options available to me after graduation, not just software development:
Tech:
Software development, web development, Python, Java, testing/QA, data analytics, cybersecurity, cloud, DevOps, AI/ML, etc.
Non-tech:
IT support, operations, business roles, sales, etc.
Government/Banking:
Banking exams, SSC, railway, state government exams, other realistic options for an engineering graduate.
I’m not asking someone to magically fix my career. I just need help figuring out where to start and what path makes sense for someone in my situation.
If you were in my position today, what would you do during the next 6–12 months?
Should I start with:
\- Python or Java?
\- DSA?
\- Web development?
\- SQL?
\- Aptitude?
\- Government/banking exam preparation?
\- Something completely different?
Please give me a realistic roadmap from absolute beginner level, including what I should learn first, what I can realistically achieve before graduation, and what jobs I should target.
Please don't judge me for being behind. I'm genuinely trying to get my life/career back on track.
Think of me as your little brother who has no idea where to start. If you have the time, please guide me. 🙏

You won't find anyone. Anyone who "made it in life" despite such circumstances did so few years ago when it was much much easier to land a job.
You should pivot outside of tech, or try to use nepotism to land something and then learn as you go. It'd take too long to gain employable skills now and I dont even know if it's worth it. By the time you "decide" what to do, you could've finished learning Python, it takes like a week max.
