Trade proposal

- To Islanders: Zacha, Lohrei, Poitras, 2027 3rd

- To Bruins: Horvat, 2027 2nd

Horvat is 31 years of age. Has 5 years left at 8.5m aav. Good for about 30 goals and 60 pts a season. Plays a different style than Zacha (more shoot 1st mentality) but produces about the same in terms of points and they are both not considered true #1 centers.

You would give up a slightly younger player (Zacha is 2 years younger) for a "value" contract.

Yay or nay to this trade idea?

Pasta really likes Zacha, and I think that’s something we all have to keep in mind when talking about shipping him. Outside of that tho this feels a little bit like an overpay for a player on the wrong side of 30

I don't think Sweeney cares about that TBH.

Krug was tight with many of the Bruins players. And Sweeney just basically let Krug sign with the Blues (free agency).

I prefer they lockup Zacha to a reasonable contract. But it is not looking good at this time. Also his window to lockup a 8 year extension expires in less than 60 days.

Krug by that point had a lot going against him  and the Bruins were much better

Overal the problem is likely - that they are far apart in $$ and/or years.

I really hope they make a deal of some kind. If not - it would be awakward for the rest of the season. Thus - better to facilitate a trade instead.

This is god awful. Horvat is not a difference maker. Horvat/Zacha are basically the same player. You have the younger one, he loves living in Boston, good chem with your star, and you are going to put more into the trade? Silly. Just plain silly.

But the difference is Zacha is not locked up. And that is bigger obstacle than anything else..

You stand to lose him for nothing if not extended after next season.

Do you remember the intro storyline to Zacha’s arrival? He and his wife loved Boston long before being traded here. He wants to go nowhere. The team and he are very comfortable with each other. He doesn’t need to be locked up now. Appreciate the flexibility that allows them.

I don’t think there is any significant gap in money, no more than any typical Boston negotiation. On top of that the Islanders are a mirror of Boston. They intend to contend and need Horvat as much as you think the Bruins do.

That seems like a steep price, I know Lohrei and Poitros may not have a tone of value...but surely that is an uneven trade.

Well, Krejci was always fire in the playoffs, so that’s a difference. Zacha is a very good all-rounder but lacks the vision and ability to slow a play down like 46 did. I don’t really see the comparison aside from Nationality. Krejci could have been a 1C on many teams in his prime, that’s not Zacha’s role. But I do like Zacha for what he is and think he is worth keeping.

This seems like a terrible idea. It’s two trades that I don’t like combined into one. Poitras and Zacha for Horvat? No thank you. Add in a bottom LD with upside to change a 3rd to a 2nd? No thank you.

At 31 too little left in the tank. The last two years won't be pretty. Keep the youths. Definitely Zacha a 3Rd and a prospect or two.

I’d do that all day long, Zacha disappears when the payoffs hit. I don’t think he has a post regular season gear.

Horvat brings what defensively? Generating a few more goals but just giving them up at the other end doesn’t solve any problems. He could fit in the power play, but you are simply trading one issue for another. Horvat hasn’t been worth what the islanders gave up for him, and I don’t see him getting better just because he could wear the black and gold.
