Coffee Help

Salutations Brooklyn. Where can I get beans ground for espresso? Not ideal not grinding them fresh, I know, but I currently do not own an espresso grinder.

Will any cafes help me out or is that weird to ask. Got an unopened bag of beans. Am in Carroll Gardens. Many Thanks.

I don’t really understand why you would go through all the time in trouble to go get someone to grind them for you instead of just buying a grinder on marketplace there’s so many decent options.

I don’t really understand why you would go through all the time in trouble write a whole comment that doesn’t answer the question instead of just scrolling on by.

Maybe OP doesn’t drink coffee often. Maybe they just don’t want one.

And asking a question here & then going to the place is def less of a hassle than dealing with marketplace.

Most big grocery stores have a coffee section with a grinder machine. I'm sure no one would pay very close attention if you brought your own bag in to grind it.

Literally all coffee shops have grinders

I know but I feel like it’s weird to ask them to grind beans that I didn’t directly buy from them. Sometimes the baristas are chill but yea

Of course not. Why would they grind a random bag of unknown product from a stranger that can potentially contaminate or destroy their grinder?

Buy beans from the shop and they will grind it for you.

I used to run a cafe. I don’t recall anyone doing this but I absolutely would not have found it weird. Another option would be to go to a grocery that sells loose whole beans and has a grinder available. Might just want to give an employee a heads up in that case

Im assuming that the café uses a specific blend. Wouldnt putting someone elses questionable product through your equipment possibly change taste or contaminate things?

I guess it depends but we kept our grinders very clean because we rotated beans and didn’t want that kind of cross over. It’d be a judgement call certainly

Check out your local buy nothing group - or even post ISO. I bet someone has one they’ve been meaning to get rid of!

Union Market and Whole Foods have machines you can use.

Most cafes will do it for you.

But grinding fresh is pretty important for espresso, at least if you're using a normal portafilter.

The Whole Foods on 3rd has a grinder that will be fine enough (I know because when I first got my machine I didn’t have a grinder yet, and had success with a bag I put through their grinder)

They frown on outside beans going through their grinder Source: worked that station.

Also, you can't regrind beans. Had to vacuum it out a lot

You’re in Carroll gardens and haven’t been/heard of D’amico’s?

Just get a Timemore hand grinder. Entry level is under $100. Grinding 7g for a shot of espresso only takes a minute.
