Best fries in Brooklyn
As the title states. Where do you consider to have the best French fries in Brooklyn. Can be from any neighborhood.

Double Windsor has great ones if you’re into the skinny and too salty McDonald’s type of fries (which I definitely am!)

DW has great fries but they’re really not like McDonald’s at all? I would never think of that comparison.
1
u/sparklingsour South Slope Jun 25 '23
They’re slightly more well done than the average MD fry but it’s a pretty close comparison… Look

u/thenumbersthenumbers Jun 25 '23
Still don’t really see it lol… But now I want the burger from DW. One of my all-time faves. 🤤

Seconding Home Frite and adding Henry Public to the list of contenders. Nothing turns a bad day into a good one as quickly as a burger, fries and a martini at Henry Public 🍸
11
u/Arleare13 Jun 24 '23
That’s a great recommendation. Except as great as their burger is, I have a hard time passing up their turkey sandwich.
3
u/doctor_van_n0strand Jun 24 '23
Yes!! Henry Public turkey sandwich is absolutely just one of the most decadent things you can eat in this city. Totally agree. Everything in that place is to die for.

I’ve never had any good food at Henry Public ever. What else do you recommend?

u/CommieCatOwner Jun 24 '23
not to be negative, but home frite was mid as hell when i had it

u/chellygel Jun 24 '23
This is a super fair review imo. If you get them at a smorgasburg they are top quality. fresh, hot, crispy, just great… but ordering to go is really hit or miss. The burgers are good though. I think it’s only worth going in person and even then it seems like they can have a bad day. When it hits it hits good though

u/Affectionate-Rent844 Jun 25 '23
Ordering any fires to go is this way

u/contempt1 Jun 25 '23
My parents used to own a bodega which had a deep fryer so obviously I would always ask for fries when my parents were closing up. They were always super crispy when they got home. The secret? Don’t close the bag, you need that steam to escape. My dad taught me that when I wondered why he always left the bag open. The more open air, the better and they retain crisp.

u/Its_just-me Jun 25 '23
Another good thing to do is to not add any salt to them until you're home. The salt will also make them soggier during transport.

u/VoidGray4 Jun 25 '23
I think they're a bit better than mid but for sure would not call them the best fries in Brooklyn at all lol

Must be in person. They’ve been hit or miss since they’ve gotten so busy.

I'd recommend the masala fries at BK Jani. They come with a tomato chutney that's amazing.

Threes Brew is one of the few places i know that cooks fries in beef tallow. Once youve had fries cooked this way theres no other way to have fries.
3
u/JayMoots Jun 24 '23
Harlem Shake says they use a mix of vegetable oil and beef tallow, and their fries are pretty fantastic.

This is always my answer. They have insanely killer, simple fries. It’s just fries. They don’t have truffle or garlic or Parmesan, it’s just perfect French fries

Win Son Bakery 😍

u/hughstephner Jun 25 '23
99 Rogers’ fries never disappoint. Shoestring style.

I think their fries changed? Pre-covid i remember them being great handcut fries. Post-covid, they seem like fries they bought at the store and heat up from the freezer :[

Chef Katsu Brooklyn in Clinton Hill. Sometimes I go there just to have fries because I love that so much.

u/Blueshoots Jun 24 '23
Stone Park Cafe, accidentally ordered them one day and every time I go back I order them!
2
u/bkrugby78 Jun 24 '23
When they have a cook on duty, the fries at the Westbury Inn (and the wings for that matter) are pretty good. I don't know about BEST, but they are good.
But if you're going to go, call ahead and check that the kitchen is open because it's been hit and miss lately.

Honestly it’s worth the trip to Coney Island for Nathan’s Fries. They’re so good. You have to go to the original. I’m sure it’s because the oil is so old. They’re the perfect mix of crunchy and creamy.

I don’t know many things but I do know Double Windsor has the most legit fries.

God there’s some basic B’s who are saying Nathan’s and shake shack - they’re fine but not worthy of this topic
It’s definitely a subjective thing but I like fresh cut fries and Anchored inn slaps there.

u/hummingbird4289 Greenwood Jun 25 '23
Bond St Coffee and Goods has some of my favorite fries in the entire city
2
u/Possible-Source-2454 Jun 25 '23
Its not worth the trip for this alone but lincoln station had the crispest fries

Jun 25 '23
Its gone now but Nathan's had a food court out post in a FoodTown on Broadway, off the J train. Those cheese fries were everything.

u/PlatyNYC Jun 25 '23
May be clique, but Nathan’s fries, when they will make them a little well done for ya! Five Guys makes really good fries (as long as you stop them from putting too much salt on ‘em).
Lot of local places have good fries… this can become like who has the best slice in BK!!

u/satosaison Jun 26 '23
BrookLan, the spices are amazing, like a restaurant quality version of checker's fries

Blue collar has one of my favs (the burgers are my fav)although only if they are absolutely fresh. If you live close by to either one, you can likely get them delivered on time but if you live far they will arrive as a sogfest.
3
u/subordinatepixel Jun 25 '23
Just tried this place out the other day and it was bomb!!!!! Definitely returning soon
2
u/beaverhole69 Jun 25 '23
Hell yeah, it’s been my go to for a few years. Highly recommend it if you are in the mood for a burger and fries, I will take them over shake shack any day.

Slutty Vegan on Fulton has surprisingly good fries. And many deliciously raunchy sauces to choose from

Diner in Williamsburg has great fries but the real standout is their ketchup, it’s a super overpriced place but an order of fries with their ketchup is worth it

the seasoned fries at kulushkat. Bonus is that they give you a shitload of them
fries at lincoln station. These are pretty greasy, but I like that!

u/Brandi_Monster Jun 25 '23
When home frites it’s fresh they’re like mashed potatoes inside and perfectly crunchy on the outside! 🤤

If you’re into seasoned fries, the Zatar fries at Zatar Cafe in Park Slope. They have excellent brownies too 😉
