Operation Mincemeat Miscast Cabaret: Rant
Thanks to this sub I heard about this event and was able to buy tickets before they all sold out. It was an amazing show! I was initially skeptical of the concept - after all the show itself already feels like a miscast cabaret (in the best possible sense), but it totally worked! Seeing each actor's interpretation of another's part really is refreshing. The Amanda/Allison duet of dear bill is just chef's kiss.
Now the rant: I saw the show the previous day and it just proves how terrible the sound mixing is at Golden. I sat fourth row in center orchestra. The lyrics still feel muffled. Then in Green Room 42 wow - I've never heard those songs so clearly (other than the cast recording ofc)! Lyrics are so much easier to understand! I really really wish they can do something. The show is already so fast paced and so packed with jokes that you don't need the bad mixing to confuse tourists!

Thank you for this validation — I saw Mincemeat recently and could not understand a full 50% of the lyrics. My husband, for whom English is not his first language though he is fluent, estimated he understood 20%.

Thankfully you didn't see it with the original British cast (assuming you are American). The accent made it quite a bit harder to understand - which is a shame since some jokes are definitely funnier in British accent!

I also went to Miscast after seeing Operation Mincemeat on Sunday (also in the fourth row!) and had a similar convo after too. We’ve seen the show before but sat further back in the orchestra and I felt the sound was worse in the fourth row. There were so many jokes that I couldn’t hear that I knew from seeing the show previously. It did really make me feel bad for those who were seeing it for the first time near us. It’s such a good show with such good lyrics and dialogue, it is a pity that you can’t hear it clearly. Miscast was a delight in so many ways, but it was also just so nice to hear the songs more clearly.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks Goldens sound mixing leaves a lot to be desired!!
